The Rice Owls will carry the College Colors Day torch into the national spotlight on the evening of August 29 when then play host to the third annual College Colors Day Classic football game against SMU. The College Colors Day Classic will be played at Rice Stadium at 7 p.m.
College Colors Day, organized by the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), coincides with "back to school" and the kick off of the college football season. College Colors Day seeks to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that drive collegiate athletics by encouraging people from across the country to wear apparel of their favorite college throughout the day of August 29.
"This day is all about showing your school sprit and supporting Rice Athletics," Rice Head Football Coach David Bailiff said. "We are excited about College Colors Day and hope the community rallies around the Owls by wearing their blue and gray on August 29."
"We're honored to have the College Colors Day Classic affiliated with a rivalry game that dates back nearly 100 years," CLC Senior Vice President of Marketing Kit Walsh said. "We look forward to celebrating this day with Rice University, and making it a lasting and memorable tradition for all participants."
Fresno State and the University of Nevada played in the inaugural College Colors Day Classic in 2006, and in 2007 Syracuse University played host to the University of Washington.
