Interesting article about the sacrifices ECU is willing to make to bail on CUSA for the BCS

So basically, they would be fielding a team making less money than they currently make in CUSA and have no prospect in sharing the BCS riches until they can do what they have never done in CUSA.

basically says it all

Done without a second thought. SMU would definitely take that deal from the SEC or Big 12.

i believe we have the capital available to survive a financial hit like ECU will likely feel

The fact that they can't get in on the BCS money until they reach a BCS game themselves is pretty rough...along with no TV contract

That's pathetic.

I would hope not. Men's BB can be a major revenue generator, but under the ECU plan, this program takes a major hit. Plus, after 3 years the FB program could be left without a home and all the other programs are left in lesser conferences.

If anyone thinks this is a good plan, then just take your millions to Vegas, put it on number 13 and hopefully you will get a big reward, otherwise, it is ALL gone.

If admittance into the Big XII or the SEC required that SMU receive half the revenues of the existing schools for the first 10 years plus SMU had to make a one-time entrance fee of $100M to join, wonder if we would do it?

All it would take is for 3 people to make a Gerald Ford type donation.

My bet is it would happen.

Why would we have to go live in the Capitol?

Can not see this happening. FB and BB teams do not bring a nationally known program. Big East does not gain anything by adding ECU. Of course it does not cost them anything either. Just can not see this happening, unless the football team pulls a Hawaii and goes to a B(S)CS bowl game.

Not sure that's a good bet for ECU, nor do I think if an opportunity like that ever came up for SMU should we jump at it. It doesn't make sense to basically b@st@rdize the rest of your athletic program just so football can be the step child of a BCS conference.

Definitely not, especially with our BB program on the rise. At ECU though, FB the main gig for them, so it makes for since from their standpoint. Still doesnt make a lot of sense, though

Can we say the word "pathetic", or "desperate"? ECU wants to join the big boys. It can't win CUSA or even the eastern division of CUSA. Its never been in a major conference. The BE wouldn't mind a football only member and ECU is not a half-bad program and is in their footprint. But I just don't see it happening. Marshall and UCF have just as much to offer in that regard as ECU. If they leave, I won't shed a tear.
