It is wonderful to hear that there will be another Trinity League brother at SMU. Evan looks forward to your arrival and is excited about the talent that you will bring to the Mustangs. Maybe you two can put together a version of the Pride/Hut Drill? :D

Congratulations Robert, you have earned this. Have a safe trip and we look forward to seeing you in Dallas.

I was walking out of a store yesterday here in HB wearing my "Mustang Dad" tee, when a young man approached me to tell me about his love for all things SMU Football.

He proceeded to tell me how much his Offensive Line coach at Mater Dei instilled the love for all things SMU in him and his fellow players.

As I read this from the story last night:

"I didn’t know I wanted to play football at SMU, but I talked to (Mater Dei offensive line) Coach (Joe) Medlin, and he talked a lot about SMU. He played there, and he said he loved it, and said it was a beautiful place to go to school.",

I was struck by the serendipity of my earlier meeting with this former HS player.

His parting words to me were...

GO MUSTANGS

That is so cool HBPD. I had no idea the line coach at MD went to SMU.

You know it's nice that there will be both Mater Dei and Servite boys playing on the same team. This is a very, very good thing. I bet Evan, Robert and Catherine will quickly become buddies. Mr. H and I want them to know that once we get there our home is their home and they are always welcome.

This just keeps getting better and better.

That's a great story.... I know, on the one hand, we are coming off a 1-11 but is Mustang Mania returning? I do recall once seeing a Mustang Mania bumper sticker on a trash can in Paris, much like the one that used to (is still?) be on that trash can outside the library where the stairs go up to what used to house the computer science and EE department.

Thanks for sharing HB Pony Dad! I loved reading this.

It seems Mater Dei turns out a good player ever now and then. The quarterback in 2001 was a kid name Matt Leinart and the quarteerback
in 2003 bas named Colt Brennan :)

And the #1 QB recruit in the nation for the class of '09 is Mater Dei's Matt Barkley - a 5 star USC commit. MD truly has a top-notch football program.

I have a buddy in Huntington Beach who graduated from Mater Dei (20 years ago or so), and still goes to watch some of their games. He said Barkley is the real deal - big, strong, huge arm, etc. - but said that there were several games in which it was our man Mojica who was the best player on the field, sometimes on both sides of the field. He said the 5-10 height listed in the story is "about right, at least within an inch" and said he can't guess at the guy's weight, but he said Mojica is one of those guys who won't run a 4.3 but seems to be at top speed immediately, can put his head down and run over people when he has to and is extremely elusive in the open field. Also called him a "violent" hitter who could be a lot of fun to watch on special teams, if Coach Gansz plays him there.

Thanks for another great story, webguys.

Mater Dei, Servite and Orange Lutheran all have top notch football programs. Glad to see Coach Jones has tapped the Trinity League.
