Or how about the fact that we haven't beaten them in Houston since before the DP!

It's time.

Among all the fans disguised as stadium seats at Rice, I wanna wear a sack over my head when the ponies play there until we break out of the doldrums and beat the Owls on the road. It's humiliating to have such a poor record for so long against THAT team.

I don't think it will be long before we are hading Rice shellackings every year. This year will probably be the hardest.

But, and again I am an optimist, the more I read about the way our D is going to play this year, I really think that we will be much improved at least when our starters are on the field. I think depth is out biggest foe, but hopefully our O will get the job done early and often.

I predict SMU 35 - Rice 17. It's just the way I feel it. I think Rice will be flat and we will be all over them like a rash.

rice averaged 43 points in their last six games last year.......and they have almost every starter back.......no way they will be held to 17 points

You raise a good point, but they did lose one of their top receivers (Armstrong), and 14 of the points last year were interceptions returned for a touchdown. That puts their offensive output at 29 points. Had we been able to put together a couple of defensive stops I think we could have got them into the teens.

And regardless of the possible score on August 29, their last two victories over us were come from behind ones. I think JJ will have our team in better mental shape, and believing they can win.

For the record, Rice averaged 43 points the last four games of the season. For the record the best defense they played in that span was the 87th ranked defense (coincidentally, their lowest points scored during that span). The three others (including SMU) were among the absolute worst defenses in the country (108th, 116th and 117th ranked defenses). Don't forget this was the almighty passing offense that got shut down by Nichols State. The "great" Chase Clement's stats against Nichols State in 2007: 11 for 28 for 101 yards with 3 picks and no TD's.

I am not afraid of Chase Clement.

I am afraid of Jarret Dillard.

hmmm. Interesting. But more to the POINT-what were his Statistics against SMU? He was what one might call DOMINATE against SMU. I know he ran for about 124 on us and threw for about 360. Right? Had about a Gazillion TDs Right?

Didn't just about everyone we played against have "DOMINATE" stats against us?

By the way, how can one be DOMINATE? Dominant, I can see, but not DOMINATE.

SMU has a history of making players look like all-americans. BTW, that SMU team had quit on that game long before it even started. BTW, that SMU team was coached by an idiot.

What matters is that Rice is a beatable team and a winnable game. SMU doesn't have the right to take them lightly, but I am not going to allow the "great Chase Clement" or Rice's "high octane offense" to be excuses for losing this game. SMU loses, it is because of SMU.
