very interesting Audio report on PonyStampede.com of DC Tom Mason who stated as soon as we figure out who are best blitzers on the team are we are going to blitz from all over the field. Problem is I'm really can't identify a guy that really fits that classic blitzer mold based on past performance-at least from the starters. I would think that Odiari, Herron, maybe freshman like Banjo maybe Victor Jones might fit that mold. You'd like your SS to be a great blitzer but Rock Dennis is on the small side-pretty good speed though. I'd be surprised if our starting LBs right now run a legitimate 4.65. Anyway it is interesting because those guys might get added playing time. I'm just not sure right now if we have the right peronnel to be an successful agressive blitzing defense. We certainly failed miserably last year in putting pressure on the QB. I love that philosophy though. and look forward to the day we actually have the personnel to be successful at that style.

Returning players(other than DLineman) with sacks-and this is all of them:
Bonilla 1 sack
also Smart had 1.5 sacks from his DE position.
Total Defensive Snaps: 960

When they get the opportunity, I look for Odiari and V. Jones to really bring it.

Everytime we blitzed last season, they would just disappear into the line.

I'm going to assume that if we yell "All Out" this coaching staff will have it mean something other than the obvious.

SMU had 1/2 a sack from its DBs (Hudman) last year including returning and non-returning players.

Yenga. Hopefully with a little more meat on his bones this year and a little help from the center of the line.

A team that blitzes a lot has quite a few different stunt packages. It will be up to the coaches to figure out which player works best in a certain stunt. As it seems the coaches were hired for their coaching ability not because they are brothers or good ol boys it should work out ok.

Bailey has the size/speed combo to be great on the blitz. Banjo can really lay the wood and seems to be pretty athletic from his HS tapes. Both these guys could be legit options out of the secondary.
At LB I think that it is safe to say Bonilla is too dang slow to really be an effective blitzer, although Smart could be (not sure, haven't seen him play LB). I haven't seen enough of our other LBs to really get a gauge on them.
