also mentions ponystampede.com. More press is good press for both sites and for SMU. Ponyfans being free might even get a member boost.

More press is not always good press. One of the reason that is given for the demise of the Time Herald is all the advertising cancelled by SMU backers who disliked some articles written about some of the actions happening during the death penalty days. The paper never recovered this advert revenue and closed in 91.

I believe it will be more press and better press. That is the best combination. It could definitely help in recruiting.

the more the better...it would be worth puttin flyers up on campus advertising the site...the more we can get people involved the more spirit and pride they will take in the whole athletic program...i mean we almost exclusively talk about football but even i have branched out and followed other sports cuz of the board

You don't really buy this, do you? The Herald was going to die anyway, whether a few SMU supporters bought ads or not. It was a p.m. paper in a two-paper town. Not many p.m. papers left, if any. And only a handful of big cities have more than one paper anymore.

I wish SMU supporters had enough power to kill a newspaper. If that were true, the DMN and Channel 8 would have probably bit the dust, too.

From what I read, they're trying to bite the dust on their own. Belo is laying off another 500.
