True most places, but not true when it comes to Rice, Stanford, Texas A&M, & North Texas. They all have a chip of one kind or another when it comes to their band. Therefore, ripping on their bands is relevant and allowed, even if a little goofy.

Sir, I would disagree with your logic. Since their absurd band has had a knack of trying to make a mockery of everybody and thinks they have a unique delivery, they like the attention that they summon from people, good or bad.
People like the keeper of the star actually think their brand of entertainment is fascinating. It's complete crap.
Just get used to this phrase for the next several weeks.

Consider some of the stuff they've done about Aggie High. It's funny, and not just because it was mocking the Aggies (although that does, as a rule, make it funnier).

They do something funny once every couple of years, and then they get in trouble for it. An act like theirs is doomed to be lame or get disbanded (heh, pun) in our wussified sensitive world.
