One SMU senior is on the cusp of securing his place in the history of Mustang football, with a chance to join legends like Arthur Whittington, Jerry LeVias and Doak Walker as the greatest return specialists in the history of SMU football. Jessie Henderson visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his goals for the upcoming 2008 season and his place in the history of the football program at SMU.

I knew Jessie was good, but didn't know he was that far up in the record book. Hope he breaks 'em all this year.
Preferably against Froggy High!

It's hard to overestimate how valuable a returner like Henderson is.

Exactly - and based on the talk coming out of camp, we might have more than one good one. Isn't Sanders working back there as a kickoff returner, too?
Want evidence of how valuable a good return guy is? Wait until Henderson's gone.

Looks a little like Emmitt Smith.
OJ? Don't see it.

Bennett alway said about Henderson that he was going to try to get the ball into his hands more because Henderson was such an impact player. As far as I could tell, that never really happened.
With this offense's proclivity to get the ball the RBs in space combined with making defenders defend the pass first, I hope Henderson will get the opportunity to be that impact player. It sure would cap off a great career for the senior to take a couple of long ones all the way to the bank.

Great article! One question, in the article it states that Jesse had 179 return yards vs. Tulane in 2005. I thought it would be 2006 since that was the year he had the 4th quarter 100 yard return kick-off in the Superdome against Tulane after they scored to take the lead.

I think it's 2005. I'll double-check.
