I thought today was the day that JJ was narrowing it down to 2. I have read nothing where he said today would be the day he announces the starter for the Rice game. Perhaps I am wrong, but I think we may be waiting for big news that will not come from JJ just yet.

Of course there seem to be plenty of others who claim they know already. I do find it hard to believe that JW would not even be picked as backup. I have a tough time believing JJ is going Freshman for both his QBs this season.

I think we can rest assured that if Willis is not in the top two he will not be starting the Rice game.

We all had a hard time believing JJ was interested in coaching here as well.

I've got a very bad feeling about all this. I'm really glad we have a I-AA team on the schedule this year (never thought I'd say that).

The only thing that is keeping me looking forward to the season now is that in every other year, I've been overly optimistic about our chances with very little pessimism about anything before the season began.

This year I think we are going to outright suck now. Maybe this is a good thing; my being hopeful of us winning only brought us down...maybe a little karmic reverse psychology will do this team some good.

Or I could just employ the jtstang method, which is probably what will end up happening.

I have a feeling once it is officially announced that two frosh will have a better chance to lead this team than one of the most prolific QBs in team history, many people will start to turn their backs on JJ...cant wait for that to happen

Like I said before, it will be X100 of the backlash that happened when Willis was (correctly) suspended for bashing that gay guy two years ago.

You know, if JJ has been charting all the QB's throws for the last couple of weeks to the point that he could narrow the field, it seems to me that many poster's preference for one QB over another has more to do with loyalty for past service than best man for the job.

I'm making no comment or prediction as to who the winner of the QB lottery might be...

But discussing the situation with other ponyfans, I've had several people tell me that putting a freshman in as starter means freshman mistakes... Makes sense... But if a freshmen were to win the starting job, they're winning it even after making those freshman mental mistakes already in practice. So if a freshmen were to win the job, JJ must think they're better or have a better shot to develop into the type of QB he needs for this system. And I think JJ is probably the best qualified to make that judgement.

So I'll be watching this situation develop with the keenest of interest, but I'm certainly not going to freak out and claim that the sky is falling if Justin isn't named in the top 2.

it wont be a good thing but you will just see how quickly people turn their backs on someone when they dont do what they want them to do. Im sure there are lots of boosters who paid him that $$ that want JW at QB but im sure they are fine with what he is doing.

Wow...the shine sure has worn off of JJ quickly. Relax! If folks were so excited about JJ becoming head coach, why do they now want to second guess his QB decision? He's here to turn SMU around and if anyone thinks that will happen immediately that's pretty short sighted. Many may feel that JW gives us the best chance to win immediately and there may be some truth to that. But JJ knows what he is doing and if he thinks someone other than JW is the best man for the job of leading SMU back to winning ways, I'm willing to relax knowing that someone who knows what the hell he is doing is making the decisions and is not taking a poll of message board posters.
