SI picks up Willis benchinghttp://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/f ... index.html
Now the world knows the career TD passing leader at SMU is freaking THIRD STRING. This hurts SMU's chances.
Re: SI picks up Willis benching
Sounds like you have broken your own rule and had expectations for this season.
Based upon this quote from JJ,..."After going through all of the tapes, I felt like Bo and Braden had a better understanding of the offense," Jones said. "I think they're executing a little bit better, so we're going to give them the reps. We will continue to give the other guys reps too, but those guys will get the focus."
Jones said he told Willis to stay ready to play. "I told Justin he's only one or two plays away from being the guy, so he's got to be ready," Jones said. "We're going in the other direction right now, but the other guys have got to be ready." ...it sounds to me that he is saying that based upon practice conditions to this point these guys are doing the best job, but he may be hedging his bets in that if they don't do as well in game situations he is ready to throw Willis back into the fire if he is ready. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Re: SI picks up Willis benching
Our chances of possibly winning more than 6 games under the direction of a REAL Head coach. You are absolutely ignorant if you think a true freshman give us the best chance to win this year. I really see this as JJ tossing this season to the wind. The announcement yesterday was really to tell you (blind followers) that BLM will get 12 good practices in and some of you will pay for tickets to watch this team take a foot to the a@# once again. He did this at Hawaii when Tommie Chang was a True Freshman and they went 3-9. Of course, Chang eventually had a decent career, as should BLM but even Blue chip QB's struggle as true freshman. This season is a Wash! Prepare yourselves. After SWT it will get ugly. I wanted JJ to come here and was one of the first to suggest he could be the secret coach. I also believe he will turn the program around but it won't be this season. Therefore, when they put the real product on the field, I'll return to the Stadium. This is like the Texas Rangers trading the good players for prospects every year and the same idiots keep buying tickets. ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: SI picks up Willis benching
You REALLY do not know what you are talking about when you bring up what happened in Hawaii. That is sad because I've tried to explain here the exact circumstances that happened with Chang. Here are a few things wrong with your statement: 1. Timmy Chang or Tim Chang. I don't know who Tommie is. 2. Chang did NOT start the season as the starting QB! JJ actually picked Rolovich (a Junior QB) to start the season...but he couldn't figure out the offense and Hawaii lost to UTEP and *Portland State*. Only after those 2 losses did JJ start the true freshman QB. 3. Record with the Junior QB starting: 0-2. Record with the true Freshman starting: 3-7, plus the following season Hawaii went 9-3. It isn't like JJ expected to lose because he started a true freshman--the junior starter was 0-2 and lost to Portland State at home and Chang clearly made the team better! 4. The Junior QB who was passed over for Chang got to start the last 9 games of the following season (Chang got hurt). He finally figured out the offense and had an amazing stretch of games: 3361 yards, 34TDs/9INTs, 8-1 record as a starter. He now has a coaching career (he's the QB coach at Hawaii) because he stuck it out and proved himself instead of acting as if the starting spot was some type of right that JJ took away from him.
I watched Chaing many times-and the kid did not have a strong arm. I may be mistaken but I believe Chang lead the Nation in Career interceptions. His arm was very similar to Willis. Kinda funny that a June Jones QB who stresses accuracy leads the Nation in Career Interceptions.
Chang set the yardage record AND the INT record. If you look at the TD/INT ratio or the QB ratings, Colt was far superior to Chang. Chang had a quick release but not a strong arm and he would force things, which led to a lot of INTs.

[quote]About how he beat out Chang for the starting spot in 2000 but lost the job to Chang after 2 games, Rolo said: “I didn’t do it right. I wasn’t close to where I should have been. (Rausch) needs to enjoy it, but he still has to work.â€
Re: SI picks up Willis benching
So I take it you won't be attending a single game this fall... ![]()
I think that June Jones has proven himself to be a good coach. I also think he knows an incredible amount about the game of football. Thirdly, I don't know a coach that truly goes into a season and just chalks it up. Is he building for the future, probably. But to think that he has given up on this year seems far fetched. If Justin Willis was significantly better right now and gave us a much better chance of winning he would be the starter. The coaching staff apparently doesn't believe that for whatever reason. The same guy that was a genius on this board over the past few months seems to have become a moron overnight according to some posts. I think like all things time will tell. I, for one, have ultimate confidence in June Jones.

i think he might be a relative of JW
