The Problem with Willis (joke.....maybe)

Postby Mustangsabu » Thu Aug 21, 2008 9:43 am

Willis quote in the DMN: "I can be a better person through all of this just by supporting it and keep working hard because I'm going to get a shot. When I do, I'll run with it."

Is the last bit a last act of defiance regarding his tendency to get happy feet?

I don't think so, but under the circumstances it is a strange choice of words. I thought it was funny.

Agreed that it's pretty funny and ironic.

You know after hearing it was said by JJ at the luncheon that we'll see all four QBs on the field this year, I am frankly a bit relieved. I really want to see how Willis performs in this offense under game pressure.

He will not do well. In practice now he will stand on the sideline and get get maybe 2% of the snaps. His timing will drop off and his feel for the speed of the game will be lost. Turner will fare better because he will be running the scout team and getting more snaps.

How do we know that Turner gets to run the scout team? I don't know how all that works.

Last man on the pole. Willis carries clipboard with Turner and the walkon from HP running the scout team

Winston Gamso is running the scout team. Logan Turner is with the other QBs working with the regular offense.

IF the run and shoot produces max points and the defense holds, then there is the opportunity for a lot of offensive kids to play. Also, there is nothing that says doesn't Willis start to get the offense and show improvement enough to move up.

I think Willis can be a good one with a dose of discipline. He either improves to JJ's standards or he doesn't. He is now in a position to determine his future.

After thinking long and hard about the QB situation, I find it nearly impossible that JJ won't play Willis. So I'm still looking forward to seeing JW on that field once the season starts.

Let’s put some logic thinking in to the qb line-up.
a. How often has JJ played a qb when the starter was not injured? (Seconds qb goes in for a little mop up, got to keep him hopeful)
b. It will take all the playing time a new qb can get to pick up the Throw and Hope.
c. JW has seen his fate is showing a good face and will most likely transfer in January.
d. It is possible Turner has hopes also and also does not want 4 years of pine
splinters in the backside (It can get cold sitting on a bench week after week). He could also be gone in January.
e. Then again JW and Turner may only want a degree and do not mind sitting on the bench and know they can’t compete.

Keep in mind that JJ himself moved around in school Oregon 71-72, Hawii 73-74 and Portland State 75-76

Very true but JJ said after 3 games he will reevaluate the QB situation. I think in the first 3 games, Bo and Turner will both get snaps. Bo more than Turner. However, I dont think JJ is that vindictive to not let JW on the field. He knows how much hes worked his but off for this program, sure that was under PB but Willis has put his name on many records on this program. JW will get on the field during game play somehow but i think it will be at the QB position or in a trick play where he throws. It may not seem plausible but i think it will happen.

I think we go 1-2 in the first 3 with of course the only win being Tx St. but i do have lots of faith in Bo. I just think the pressure will get to him during actually game play.

JJ has enough respect for his players so i think JW will get some snaps under center...dont know the exact number but he gets some plays as the SMU QB this year. It might be an OSU scenario where he kneels the ball at the end of the game but he'll get some snaps.

The last thing I want is this to turn into the OSU fiasco with the "Im a man, Im (insert what ever JJs age is here)!!!
