We'll know SMU is 1-0 and Rice is 0-1.
That's all that will matter.
GO PONIES!

If we lose, the "doom and gloomers", will be so happy to say" I told ya so". If we win, they will find something else to be miserable about.

We will know that June Jones is a lot better coach when he has a lot better players and that SMU has a long way to go in building a talent base to achieve our goals. More a shot at the previous Coach than June Jones. That being said I do believe that SMU has some pieces to the puzzle beginning to surface on the defensive side of the ball which will consolidate into some improvement later in the season. Not really impressed by SMU's starting defense but I think this SMU defense will be able to utilize young personnel in situational schemes that give SMU's more weapons than that awful collection of talent we called a defense last year. For eample going to a 3-4-4 and putting Odiari and Smart at MLB in run situations. For example, using the depth at CB to go with 5 DBs in certain situation with better cover skills. For example, going to certain rush formation using the athletic ability of Thompson, Julian Herron and Banjo and Odiari to blitz the QB. This team has complementary DEs-we can go either tall or small to fit the situation. This defense is much more versatile than the one dimensional group we put on the field last year. I just don't see all these new parts-the vast majority of which have never played that role at the DIA level- jelling early in the season. New many new parts playing too many new roles.
