Saw this in an old article bashing the run-n-shoot as a "novelty" offense, evidently Brett Favre wasn't a good fit for JJ's system either:

"By the way, as for accepting the Juner’s expertise on quarterback evaluations, just remember that June Jones’ most famous evaluation was as the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons. That’s where he stated that Brett Favre would never amount to anything in the NFL, and was a strong force behind Favre being traded to Green Bay."

I did some further research and Atlanta went with Jeff George over Favre. Atlanta did go to the playoffs the following year with a 9-7 record, only to lose against the Favre lead Packers in the first round. The next year Atlanta went 3-13 and JJ was fired, while the Packers won the Superbowl. Do you think JJ would want a do over on that decision??

But maybe JJ is doing the opposite this time, going with the new talent instead of the established QB.

Favre was traded after the 1991 season. Jones was OC in Atlanta. Jones did quit beand the OC of Atlanta after the 1993 season; this is true... because he became the head coach.

I dont even think that JW would have been the starting QB if he didnt mess up. if JJ doesnt think a QB fits his system, he wont start him. Experience means a lot, especially at the QB position in CFB but i think BLM was always JJs man.

If JJ was still at Hawaii, BLM would have most likely redshirted if Granuke stayed there.

As for JW being in good company...JJ is doing exactly what he did in ATL. Hes going with the best fit QB for the system. He probably would not do it over again.

Chillin's commented that JJ kept Jeff George in Atlanta in lieu of Farve. At the time George was considered one of the most athletically talented and strong armed QB to enter the NFL in many years. Problem was his massive ego and failure to listen to coaching. Legendary coach Joe Paterno at Penn State was once quoted to the effect that George was the most immature and self centered recruit he ever encountered in his entire coaching career.
