Logan Turner to No. 2

For those who missed the now-deleted thread, head coach June Jones said this morning that redshirt freshman Logan Turner has been elevated to the No. 2 quarterback position, behind probable starter Bo Levi Mitchell.
Jones was adamant about the fact that he is not disappointed in any way in the performance of freshman Braden Smith, who had been named one of the top two quarterbacks earlier this week, along with Mitchell. But Jones said he felt it impeded Smith's development to have him watch Mitchell take so many snaps in practice, and that in order to have the best-prepared quarterback ready behind Mitchell, he felt compelled to go with Turner, who is the only quarterback on the roster to go through spring drills with the new coaching staff.
Technically, Jones hasn't named Mitchell as his starter, but considering the true freshman from Katy is taking a vast majority of the snaps, is as safe an assumption as there is.

Grassy knoll part II - you deleted that thread because I'm too close to the truth about JW being the true starter at Rice.

Pride,
I thought Jones said last week that Mitchell was going to start the first three games and then they were going re-evaluate it.
I don't care but this was stated last week.

If he said that, I didn't hear it. I have yet to hear Coach Jones say emphatically that Mitchell is the starter. It's clear Mitchell is his No. 1 guy, based on the way Coach Jones talks about him and the number of snaps he's getting in practice, so I guess Coach is letting us assume he's the starter.

he said it on 103.3 last week... but im not sure that's exactly what he meant... he's evaluating these guys on a daily basis and if something arises he is not afraid to make a change

Pride, do you know what they have been running at the afternoon practices? I realize it's closed but has anything leaked out about who the QB was during that time (which I assume was dedicated to the Rice game preparation)?
I'm kidding about the JW conspiracy (or am I?) but are there any rumors floating around out there regarding the player getting the snaps in the afternoon? JW seems to be taking this demotion awfully well...something doesn't feel right about it.

OK so i really don't get this. I understand if Bo is a better fit for JJ's offense and that JW might be struggling a bit but how in the world is JW not even #2 on the depth chart??? I mean, it's not like this guy can't play. Even if he's not the ideal fit for the offense you've gotta think he can run the offense better than #2 and #3 on the depth chart?

Only if he is disciplined enough to pass instead of run and if he can make the reads quickly. This is a very different QB position than he has ever played. Now, he may be doing great and this is all some sort of ruse on the part of JJ. I will be happy if this turns out to be the case, but old habits are hard to break and Willis's accuracy would have had to improve as well.

I do remember him saying that after 3 games he'd reevaluate the QB position but I don't think he actually said BLM was the starter for rice.

Has JW moved down the chart?
