When does....

b-ball start??? I'm quite certain Doherty will play the players that give us the best chance to win.

I didn't expect us to win against Rice, but I thought we would be competitive. Our QB, who should not have been playing, made too many mistakes and our defense was atrocious.

btw, it is very clear that someone at the DMN is determined to make JJ look good because Jean-Jacques' column in today's paper was laughable. I don't give a damn what kind of system JJ is running.....Willis should be playing.

I agree LA. I have however come to accept this year as a complete rebuild because that's what it is. JJ makes the decisions but there is no one who can convince me that JW doesn't give us a better chance to win games this season, even with that horrible defense.

Therefore, since we are using players who give us the best chance for success down the road and not this season, I will wait until then to purchase season tickets again.

SMU fans are more naive than TX Ranger fans.

I do believe JJ will turn this program around but this season will be ugly.

I also think Stallion is correct in saying this move has a little to do with potential JC recruits.

I think we would have gotten the kid who ended up at UCLA if it weren't for J. Willis.

What JC player wants to sign with a school that has a record setting QB(who has 1 or 2 years left) and almost certainly sit on the bench.

By demoting JW to 3rd or 4th string he is letting potentail JUCO / tranfer QB's know that it is wide open here.

The other angle is that JJ knows how bad the rest of this team is and by starting a Freshman QB you remove the pressure to succeed immediately while you also build for the future.

You start a Fresh. QB and lose to Rice by 30, people say oh it's a young team, give them time.

You start JW, lose to Rice by 30(I think we probably would have lost but it would have been a much closer game if JW played, ie.last season) and now that loss looks even worse.

JW doesn't start because JJ wants his QB to throw not run. It's not some conspiracy.

my theory was really a D1a transfer and he would have to enroll by the last day to drop classes to establish his 1 year of ineligibility. Did you guys see that Senior QB for Tulsa yeasterday who had sat on the bench for 3 years and went 20-24 and something like 365 and 3 TDs. Same thing we see at Texas Tech year after year. Willis would have been a better QB in his Junior and Senior year for this program. What does it say about a QB Guru who can't take the CUSA Newcomer of the Year and SMU record setter and make him even better. I have no problem with going with a Stud Freshman QB-if we had one-in an emergency if there is no D1A quality QB. That ain't the case. SMU had a decent shot at 4-5 wins-to give Jones recruiting ammunition to spike SMU's recruiting. What I fear now is about 1-2 wins now-I really do-although I predict 3. In that scenario recruits will have a collective yawn next year. The ridiculous straight faced lie that Willis is the 4th best QB on this team pisses me off.

I bet ur a Ranger season ticket holder. LOL.

You people are more naive than the UH fans who thought JJ was agonizing about his decision to leave(as he ate steak and sipped brandy with GJF and Sewell) and unaware that JJ actually had his eyes on this job long before the Sugar Bowl.

It's called angling/PR. Why do you think his decision to seek this job was so easy considering we've been losers for 20 plus years?

Because JJ knew the only way he could improve upon last season would be to win a BCS game and he no longer had the talent at UH to even come close. They will lose as many or more games than SMU this season.

Therefore, he comes to SMU and even if he just wins 7 games within the next 2 seasons he becomes the big hero. Had he stayed at UH and lost this season, yet improve to 7 wins next season the islanders would not be happy with that.

It's a business and he has an agent. Don't be so blind.

He also led us to the second best record post DP as a true freshman. And last year the offense for the most part did their job, the defense didn't. Tell the whole story, not half of it.

"Tell the whole story, not half of it"

Why dont you tell the whole story? Instead of pretending a twice suspended 1-11 quarterback that does not fit the new offense would have made some huge difference at Rice with the youngest team in America.

You are shortsighted and lack vision. You are like a patient at the dentist with a rotten tooth that gets upset that the root canal to fix the problem involves some pain. "Oh Doctor why couldn't we just stick with the rotten tooth a bit longer, I wouldn't be in as much pain if we had just left well enough alone and not tried to fix it once and for all".

Thank God Steve Orsini and June Jones have some vision and don't agree with you!

You are blind and naive! We aren't saying that SMU will suddenly win the rest of our games by inserting JW.

We are simply going on JJ's words which were that the best players will play and there is no way you can convince me that JW is not a better QB than BLM, BS, LT or anyone else on that roster on 8/31/08.

I don't care what offensive system we're talking about, Justin is the better QB and we just want JJ to be honest. He is full of horse shiz to say that BLM is the best QB on this team right now. Not next season but right now.

"You are blind and naive!"

No I just go with people (June Jones/Steve Orisin) that are paid big bucks to walk the walk instead of frauds on message boards that pretend they know football better than the coach that got his team to the BCS Sugar Bowl last season! Yeah Stallion, TheBest, and LA could really teach June Jones something about football!

LOL.....and I am the blind naive one!
