There are many holes that JJ can filll in this years' class. Right now! We need experience to push the underclass men that we already recruited.

WE NEED IMMEDIATE COMPETITION.

We do not have it this season.

Lets get real. All I can say is this a wasted year?

What do you guys think? We need JC recruits badly!

I agree 100%. Gas up the Pacer boys...let's go to Corsicana, Ranger, Cisco, Athen, Kilgore and Tyler. Come back to Dallas & we'll hop USAir to Phoenix and hit Glendale, Mesa and PC.

I just wrote about JCs without looking at this thread.

It is crazy that PB, MD and now JJ have not utilized this more.

By all means....YES

JJ had a $60,000 recruiting budget at Hawaii that he useded to recruit via CDs and the internet. With SMU and their multi million dollar facilities, I think JJ should at least have a $600,000 recruiting budget ways better than when he was at Hawaii.

So how much is SMU's recuiting budget?

Get those blue chip football recdruits!

In 2006 Hawaii's entire starting secondary at one point were all players recruited by Jeff Reinbold from JCs in Texas. One of the CBs (Hawthorne) became a starting WR for Hawaii in 2007.

If as Stallion seems to think SMU will recrult 25 and we have recruited 15 and we go the JC route them make them all defense. It is easier to pick up a defensive system and we need 6 to 8 big, mean head banging line men and linebackes with fast feet also a couple of 6 ft cb who think all receivers are out to steal their wallets would not go astray.

Patek, Newberry, and Lewis all played for Texas JCs and started both of their years in Hawaii. Hawthorne started for part of 2006 at DB and started 2007 at WR. Their hometowns were Victoria, Denton, Houston, and Gulf Port, Miss. Mouton (a star this year for Hawaii) is from Katy, Texas. Patek's Mom made it very clear that Reinbold was the one who recruited all of the Texas players for Hawaii.

Patek: Blinn
Newberry: Trinity Valley
Lewis: Tyler JC
Hawthorne: Gulf Coast (Mississippi) JC
Mouton: Blinn

Most of the accounts I've read put JJ's Hawaii recruiting budget at $50,000 and $500,000 at SMU.

I believe that in JJ's final season in Hawaii the recruiting budget was increased from $50,000 to $60,000. That information was straight from JJ in a couple of interviews.

Unfortunately, when you consider the increased price of airfare from Hawaii to California, Texas, etc., the increase of the recruiting budget really did NOT provide much more recruiting opportunities.

Luckily for Hawaii, JJ's departure created such a firestorm that some local businesses have helped the program out. For example, Hawaiian Airlines has provided a ton of free trips between Hawaii and the places that Hawaiian flies to (California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon) for coaches to use for recruiting. Unfortunately for JJ, it took his departure to wake up the legislature and businesses to help out the program.

Hell, we need to recruit better as good as the rest of the C-USA!!!!

I don't know about ya'll. If we have a $500,000 recruiting budget, lets make a Hawaiian beach and get our cheer leaders in bikinis and grass skirts and get our boys to commit to SMU!

Yeeee! Haaaaa! 8)

We have 15 commits and 4 grayshirts. We probably have about 5 scholarships left to give. I say we go for 2 big strong DT's, 2 big fast LB's, and 1 fast cover CB. If we happen to get another scholarship in addition to the 5 I would add 1 fast WR with good hands.

Speaking of JUCO's, we got pretty close to landing Kevin Craft who we'll see tonight...picture him in an SMU uniform versus Rice. If Neuseheisel/Chow wouldn't have been hired, he'd probably be here
