Many of you are immediately declaring this year a failure and are already saying it's JJ's fault. Knee jerk reaction after knee jerk reaction after 1 game. My question to all of those people out there, how many of you were thinking that this thing was a failure when we marched down the field twice and were up 13-0?
My guess? Not a single person here. I'm willing to bet everyone was thinking, oh wow this thing is going to be great!
Funny how the rest of the game made so many people jump off the bandwagon. How ridiculous is that?

Any true SMU fan knows that no lead is big enough for the Mustangs to not lose..........let alone one that they get in the first quarter!

Honeymoon is over but we'll be OK next week after our great victory over TSU.

geez, are you trying to emphasize that Rice outscored us 56-7 for the meat of the game?

Good point, the game was respectable until a few mistakes in the 3rd qtr.
Stats were very close for a freshman/senior QB comparison.
If I remember correctly, defense held them in the fouth qtr, scorless.
So, seems to me, we are 15 mins ( one inconsitant qtr) away from being competitive
Seems to be from a lack of conditioned athletes. We were tired on defense, slow legs, tired arm......
I remember when I played high school basketball and we went from 1/2 court ball to full court.....our coach made us run the court for two weeks straight just to ensure we were conditioned enough to sustain a full court game ( showing my age now....i was freshman though)!
I've seen smaller teams play with discipline and heart and beat bigger, stronger athletes. Must execute well on O and D on every play....and size is not as big a factor. U keep fresh legs on the field and your playmakers will make it happen!
Look forward to improvement this week!!!
Go Mustangs!

Conditioning is always an issue in the first game. Nervousness, tension, inexperience are all major factors that affect and drain mucho energy coupled with the actual physical exertion of the game plus weather factors. Also, the lack of depth and mistakes have significant impact particularly on defense. I would be very reluctant to start hinting or even suggesting that our kids are not in condition or poorly conditioned.

Excellent points! I stand corrected.
That is why it is dangerous for fans to have an opinion.....we are usually WRONG
and have uneducated observations
Go studs...I mean ponies!!!
