Vandy takes down South Carolina

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The drought is over for Vanderbilt.

Don't blink, but the Commodores are 2-0 after holding off No. 24-ranked South Carolina 24-17 on Thursday night at Vanderbilt Stadium.

It was Vanderbilt's first win over a nationally ranked team at home since 1992. The Commodores pulled this one off with superior special teams play, physical football up front offensively when they had to have it and grit.

A big, big win for Bobby Johnson and his program. I'm headed down now to talk with Johnson and his players, so check back later for several updates.

On the flip side, a devastating loss for South Carolina, which has real problems offensively.

Don't really understand why SC would punt the ball with less than 3 minutes to go. But whatever.

Great game by Vandy.

Spurrier's star is fading fast.

Talked to a player that quit the team because of the attitude of the coach's. He would rather sit out a year than play for Spurrier.

The Dores should be 3-0 after taking out Rice. I think you will see the difference between the SEC and CUSA come out in that game. While I would usually root for CUSA - I will be on the Vandy side of the field for that one . . .

After Rice - it's Ole Miss. Vandy has a real shot to become Bowl eligible this year (which I believe would be the first time since 1982, a longer span than our Ponies)

And I woudl add to the original post - Vandy also beat #6 USC last year in South Carolina - so this is no fluke - USC wanted revenge bad for last year's loss. Spurrier is a joke...
