TX State and the crowd

I sat amongst a bunch of TSU fans, and the only time I saw more Hollister and A&F gear was when I went to Sea World this summer.

Good crowd on their part. It helped keep things a bit more upbeat/exciting. The SMU crowd seemed a bit dead and slow to arrive (not a big change) but by the end of the first quarter, the crowd filled in very nicely.

I saw no evidence of the supposed surge in ticket sales. For an opener, not good, and no better than past years. bennetts first one against navy was much better. although its not surprising that fewer and fewer are believing the boy who crys wolf every 5 years.

Texas State brought more people than i expected: thanks bobcats for coming out to the game and it was fun talking mess back and forth to eachother for the first half

I expect more SMU fans than the ones that were in attendance. not a bad crowd for the first game. that TCU game better be packed

not surprising. weak opponent and weak loss to Rice. I can imagine folks will secure their tickets and not show. The boxes seemed very full. It's a shame they are boxed in. Very poor design.

I think it will take a few years for believers to actually take notice and get off the Blvd. and actually come and watch the game.

I was impressed with how many fans Texas State brought, and I really liked their band at halftime.

I thought the whole atmosphere of the game was much improved from last year.

Crowd looked fuller than normal from where the band was sitting. Oh, the student section was actually decent-sized, too.

You are now tied with Nacho as the most consistent whiner on this board. Congratulations.

I was pleased with the student section. They didn't show up in time for kickoff and left early, but they were there a lot longer than normal.

This season I got different seats. Sitting in front of me were a new group of season ticket holders. Collectively, there was an Aggie and his wife (an Auburn Tiger), a Sooner and his wife, a couple from Troy, an SMU grad and his wife, and a guy from Georgia. They said they had come to a few games last year because they live real close and liked the scene. Hey, at least we got a few more fans out of it all.

I sit on the 50 on the visitor side every game. It's usually hit or miss with the visiting crowd around me. I expected the worst with the Tx State fans, but I was mistaken. The Tx State fans around me were great. Learned a lot about the last few years of the program from the folks behind me. Very nice fans, very well-behaved. Good football-watching people.

So far, the Southland Conference fans (Sam Houston State & Texas State) have represented themselves well at Ford Stadium. Sadly, that will probably all change when the SFA Lumberjerks come to town next year. Oh, yeah...they got their [deleted] handed to them by TCU tonight, 67-7.

Their band sounded very good as did ours. Just hate the high school uniforms and formations from the out-of-towners.

I also enjoyed talking with their fans. Very good support (about like the Houston crowd a couple years ago). If it wasn't for the turnovers.

Did SHSU draw well at Ford? I missed that one. SHSU is the biggest commuter school of the three (SH, SFA and TSU) and draws from the Houston area. SFA is also a big Houston area feeder. I suspect that TX State draws more evenly from Houston and Dallas with a large contingent from San Antonio and Austin.
