No Liquor on the Boulevard?

I had an officer come by my area and tell me that we couldn't have any bottles of liquor visible, and that TABC has said it is illegal to have LIQUOR on the boulevard. Is this true? Is it new?

Yes, I realize that all you have to do it not keep it visible, but it is the principle that bothers me.

Just throwing this out there, but were you in one of those "non-alcoholic" sections?

Definitely not. This was early in the day, perhaps the officer was confused about the rules. Is that rule in effect for the frats with bartenders maybe?

I've got no clue. Sounds fishy, maybe the yellow shirts and their superiors just breaking balls. Hell, I saw a guy in the stadium with at least 6 pints of booze and no one said a word to him.

Moral of the story: keep it in a cup and "hide" it, then the world will be in perfect harmony.

This was an actual cop. Not sure if it was UP or SMU.

Ouch.

Ehh. Pour your stuff in a cup, and then place the goods in a container with a lid, or something like that.

I honestly have never heard of anything like that. Still sounds fishy to me.

There is a designated "family" section to the boulevard, down at the south end, which is supposed to be alcohol free. You will probably see more red plastic cups down at that end rather than bottles, but I've never seen anyone question what was in those cups. I know the SMU alumni tent serves beer.

NOTE: Just edited my original post, the officer told me that LIQUOR wasn't allowed, not that alcohol wasn't allowed. Sorry for the confusion. Still sounds like the guy didn't know what he was talking about.

We had an officer come by and tell us that no liquor was allowed as well. He said just beer and wine. Just be smart and don't have a bottle out in the open.

Since the early days of the BLVD we were told we could bring our alchohol to tailgate. But, the containers - beer cans, bottles, booze bottles, etc. - could not be out and visible. As long as we poured what we were drinking in a cup of some sort, everyone was happy. We've operated very well under those guidelines. It's a small price to pay. They just don't want a Methodist school giving the appearance of a drunken brawl - even though that's what it becomes. Please go along and let us all keep our priviledges. this was a hard fought, hard-earned issue from the beginning.

I didn't realize SMU was so blatantly hypocritical.
