Worst D1A Defense I Have Ever Seen

Posted: Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:19 pmSo far, we have had no pass rush, can't stop the run, can't stop the pass, and cannot tackle for squat. After the first two games, I will admit to being shocked, at how terrible this defense has been thus far.
Posted: Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:24 pm1 sack against a DII Team. What happened to the attacking defense scheme. I saw Smart blitz last nite-didn't quite get there. But where are the Safety Blitz and OLBs coming off the edge? They defintely have backed off the attacking defense plan.

Yenga and Smart both record sacks

Posted: Sun Sep 07, 2008 4:32 pmYenga is impressing me. He is hitting hard and the only one getting into the backfield. Did you see him run down that running back and catch him from behind for no gain. I will not be surprised to see him start next week. The problem our defense is having is only partially due to alignment and assignment problems. The problem primarily stems from lack of speed, lack of size, and inexcusably lack of fundamental techniques (tackling.) If Mason can get these guys to tackle the way they were taught in middle school the defense will be a whole lot better. I think our players have watched too much NFL and believe they can do what the pros do. They can't.

Though our D is not very good, you better get used to giving up a lot of yards - it's a necessary by-product of the run-and-shoot. It doesn't necessarily mean our D is as bad as the stats indicate.
