I heard only the travel squad is dressing for home games. Anyone know anything on this?

jj has never been a big fan of clutter.

There were clearly team members in the stands on Saturday. One of them mentioned that JJ announced that Scout Team was not going to dress out late in the week. This apparantly was a conflict with what Coach Ross had told parents at a fall meeting.

Can you imagine going through all the practices and not even dressing? I doubt those guys will be sticking around. Maybe thats good,maybe not

I noticed this at the game too.

Bad:
A:You work your arsh off and get beaten to the ground while on scout team and don't to get to wear that new shiny jersey and wrist bands.
B: You don't get to put a smile on your families faces.
C:Your removed from the team and your friends.
D:You don't get to sit by Stallion in the stands.

Good:
A: You get to eat a free BBQ meal and convince recruits to come.
B:You get to stop by the boulevard and check out some fine looking coeds.
C: You get to sit comfortably in the stands because your not going to play anyway and check out some fine looking coeds.
D:You get to hang out with Stallion in the stands.

I think not suiting up and sitting next to Stallion trumps everything.

Anyone disagree?

Rudy only dressed for the one game.

Rudy did it.

Lots of schools do this. It's not uncommon at all for the scout team guys to be key recruiters and sit with the recruits and their families in the stands.

But if SMU does it, it has to be wrong.

Last year I noticed a lot of redshirts dressed out and many were grab a$$ing on the sidelines and joking around. Sometimes the active palyers would get involved. When I was redshirted, we sat with the students and helped to get the students to support the team and the next year, when the redshirts were active players, the students would come out to see their friends play. I support the coaches for not dressing them out with the rest of the team. There were occasions in my day that as a perk to good work on the scout team, the coaches would dress one or two in recognition of their hard work. Also, if there was a particular player from an area where we were playing (usually out of state), they would let that player dress and travel with the team.

That is the way it was done is the early 80's. Scout and others had a chance to dress and maybe even play if they worked really hard.

Things need to be earned not given.

If it is true that a coach told parents and players they'd get to dress at home games, then it IS wrong.

I don't know whether it is true or not, but one guy said so in this thread.

Sounds like a fair and reasonable policy to me.
