New prediction for Ike: a hard right just before Austin
Wednesday, September 10, 2008, 04:18 PM
The National Hurricane Center’s latest tracking map for Hurricane Ike has the storm coming ashore just east of Matagorda Bay early Saturday and making a beeline for Austin  then making a sharp turn to the northeast before it reaches our area.
The center’s models over the past couple of days have steadily moved Ike’s most likely landfall point up the Texas coast. Corpus Christi looked to be the most likely target late Monday and early Tuesday, and now it’s closer to Palacios on the east edge of Matagorda Bay.
The 4 p.m. update also predicts that Ike will still pack hurricane-force winds  meaning 73 mph or more  by 1 p.m. Saturday when it’s predicted to be reaching the area of Interstate 10 between San Antonio and Houston.
That’s when the tracking map shows the storm changing course from a northwest heading to a northeast heading and passing well east of Austin.
But the models are likely to keep changing as Ike draws closer.
Bob Rose, a meterologist with the Lower Colorado River Authority, said. “It’s not clear whether it will go west or east of us.â€

Some expert 'splain this to me. My daughter says they are being told to stock up on certain items. One thing it says to include is "bottled water (fill a gallon milk jug and add a capful of chlorine bleach)." Wouldn't that be kinda bad for you or is it meant for something other than consumption? Or is that little enough that it would not harm?

I grew up in Galveston and lived through many hurricanes and never heard that. All I can think of is after the power goes out and you are able to get something out of the tap.

i would just fill up my tub with water... that way you can either boil the water for consumption or use it to manually flush your toilet

I use a capful of bleach to disinfect some of my brewing equipment (5 gallon stuff). I would suspect a capful is a tad much for one gallon of drinking water. I use just about 30cc of the stuff to disinfect my RV water tank (75 gal).
