I think they've been doing that for a few years, but I'm not 100% on that.

Purdue had it first and Rodeo Cowboys have used the saying "Cowboy up" for a while.
It must be nice to get paid millions of dollars (The Richards Group) for rehashing that cheesy saying.
The Pony Up slogan and song both need go away asap.

I would think the Richards Group does it for free, in return for tickets and advertising at games and in the program.

The rehashed what the students were saying starting a few years previously. I applaud them for trying to pick something already spreading through the student body, rather than just create another generic slogan that nobody cares about, like the year before...and the year before that.... and the year before that...

New Turf, New Team!
And at least "pony up" actually sorta makes sense as a common phrase. Boiler up?

"Boiler up" precedes "Pony Up" by a number of years. If anything, we copied Purdue and were just hoping that they wouldn't notice. One of my best friends is a Purdue alumni here in Dallas, but he doesn
t seem to mind. He even owns a Pony Up t-shirt. So I think they're cool with it.

That's the marketing budget (roughly), not the Richards Group's fee.
