Had the folks at ESPN.com not wanted to spread the wealth, this weekend's schedule might have seen a pair of matchups featuring ranked teams -- Rice at Duke and SMU at Baylor. Both the Owls, who were off last week, and the Blue Devils, who took out their frustrations on Western Carolina, dropped out of the Bottom 10 this week.

As did SMU, which also took the week off after getting hammered by Texas Tech on Aug. 30. The Mustangs' game against Baylor on Saturday, which the Web site dubbed "the pillow fight of the week," will have major Bottom 10 implications. So will the Rice-Duke game, whose loser could very well find itself back in the Bottom 10.

I would never suggest we should win a game just to silence some media hacks in Connecticut, but it sure will be nice when we're not worrying about a place on that list anymore.

In the poll, Baylor leads with 35% of the vote for being the worst team. SMU got only 7%. Maybe we need more open dates. The loser this week will certainly go to number 1.

I am not so sure about that OP. UTEP made a strong claim to that position by getting hammered at home by IIA Cal Poly and will likely take another even more severe pounding this week-end from SDSU, the team the should have beaten Ohio St. last week-end.

How sad is it that this thread even exists? Bottom in the entire country..
