There Are Two Types Of Interception1. The new or veteran QB(Brett Favre) who often presses and forces the ball into small spaces/double/triple coverage.
2. The new or veteran QB who just doesn't have the talent/arm for the current level at which he's playing. For example, interceptions repeatedly thrown 5-10 yards away from any receiver wearing a similar uniform, underthrown passes(primarily) and blatant inaccuracy. All I've heard from the beginning is that JJ's system requires arm strength and accuracy. Well folks, BLM has neither. As the you have seen if you have watched the games, he doesn't throw the first type of interception. BLM continues to float and underthrow the ball for INT's. He is not the future of SMU football at the QB position. If JJ rolls this kid out for the next 4 years, Timmy Chang's record for interceptions thrown will become a thing of the past. Logan Turner isn't great but he would be a very obvious upgrade at this point.
unfortunately our back up qb has played... and in fact has broken most of the schools passing records.... and led us to a 6-6 season.... WEST DIVISION CHAMPS 2010
Re: There Are Two Types Of Interception
Couldn't have said it better myself... His issues aren't associated with a learning curve, he just isn't that talented. "I'm a little different than your normal Texas coach, but I get it done, and we win."
Which is why I still think we need another QB in this recruiting class. Do you really think Mitchell, Turner, Smith and Gamaso are quality-are you sure- are you willing to roll the dice with them for at least 2 more years. I'm not. I really haven't blasted Mitchell-that's not what "our argument" is about-which is playing a true freshman who is physically immature when you have an experienced, record setting Junior QB. Just think how great that record setting QB could be with a "Genius" coaching him. If Jones' "Genuis" rubbed off on Willis, he could be an outstanding college QB-he already is a very good college QB.
are you kidding? He doesn't have either?
His interceptions are absolutley related to accuracy or bad reads/forced balls. It has nothing to do with armstrength. Turner makes better decisions right now, but his completiion percentage was not exactly a thing of beauty last night. He also goes into a full windup in order to generate any steam behind the ball; he has a very long release, which doesn't fit the offense either. BLM may not be great right now, but as far as his tools are concerned, he is the most natural fit of any player on the roster right now.
My thoughts exactly, I don't want to be overly critical of Mitchell, but our QB of the future may not be on the team and I hope Jones keeps looking. In the mean time, lets not throw the season away by getting some freshman playing time, go with a proven veteran and make him a better QB. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
Class of 89
Willis: Put me in the game, coach! I won't listen to anything you say at all. But I make lots plays with my feet!!
JJ: Feet? Not familiar with this word, "feet." Please explain
For those of you who think that Willis would do better, have you seen him in Jones's system. I confess I have not. But, the Willis I saw the last two years was a run first, pass second QB. He did not have discipline. He never showed me he could make reads. Now, maybe he has adapted to what Jones wants in a QB and Jones is holding him out for some stupid reason. But before I can accept that far fetched idea I would need someone whom I respect their ability to judge see Willis in action in this offense.
I believe June Jones wants to win this year, but he knows that in order to take this program to the top of the conference he needs players to run his system. Now if Willis will and can learn to be a player in this system he is athletic enough to be able to contribute and maybe go on to the next level.
He read defenses well enough as a freshman to only throw 6 Interceptions and set an SMU record for TD passes. I have confidence that our resident Genuis could make him even better. You people that think Justin Willis can't play College Football at this level are delusional. He would have continued to improve.
You'd thought that Willis would have had similar thoughts when June Jones arrived as well... If I was already a record setting QB and a coach who has been perennially responsible for the NCAA's passing leader arrived at my campus, shoot, I'd probably wake up extra early every day just to hand him his newspaper.
Like he improved last year? Maybe I am wrong, but he didn't seem to mature and improve last year.
Not to mention Willis has great chemistry with our best offensive player, E. Sanders. I guess JJ is going to prove his point, whatever that is, by not playing Willis this year. And Pony fans will continue to suffer....22 years and counting. JJ gets $2 million and we get more bad football.
