Does SMU have D1 Talent? How is it that a team in a top 10 city, in a top recruiting location, in a beautiful area, with wonderful academics field such a miserable team.
I see teams other teams in much worse circumstances perform so much better. Did the prior coaching staff have no eye for talent? Is the current coaching staff willing to flush this season in the name of player development? Pony 81
My gut is the previous coach didn't have an eye for talent that works in the Run and Shoot, so June has resigned himself to flush the season to come back with one hell of a season next year.....
GO Ponies!!!!
EVERY other team and i do mean EVERY other team somehow finds a coach to give them a quick winning season. Why not SMU?
Absolutely correct DBB!
Look at Rice - Wishbone talent that Todd Graham takes to a bowl in ONE YEAR with a spread offense. Now Rice looks like Texas when SMU plays them. Wishbone talent absolutely drilling SMU. This staff is flushing the season. The fans see it and will not show up to watch blow outs. Pony 81
and, DBB, if we're comparing teams four weeks into the season, I'd say so far Cutcliffe>June.
And before someone calls sunshine and says I told you it would be rough, I said 2-10 likely or 5-7 if we overachieve. I also said we were due for a TCU a$$whipping, which we got tonight. I'm still surprised that we p!ssed down our legs yet again on national tv.
Justin is not the Mesiah, but come on. If BLM is that good, why does Turner get reps in every game?
DBB
How's this for a little sunshine.
Realistically, after watching this team, I don’t see them winning another game the rest of this year. Sorry…
I agree. Also, the coaches who win right away do it with players who weren't recruited for their system. You have to make due with the talent you have while recruiting players who are a perfect fit for your system. IMO you don't just tank a season in an attempt to develop a QB who may or may not pan out when you have a proven upper classman on the bench. It's not fair to fans who pay money to see the best players we have compete and it's not fair to the rest of the team.
Ok, I am a Willis fan but after last season can you really say Willis is a proven quarterback? Given his happy feet, which does not work well in the run and shoot, don't you think we would be more prone to more of the same? He didn't have that great of a season last year, with a more experienced line and receivers, so why would it be better this year?
GO Ponies!!!!
I think we should be better at D than we are. We have some alright talent out of high school on D. Maybe Tom Mason just doesnt know what he is doing. 3rd and 2 vs a team that runs the option a lot and the put everyone in the middle?
You got to wonder why teams don't just go for the long ball on 1st and 2nd every time, cause they know they can convert 3 and whatever against the ponies.
One thing I will say we did pretty good this weekend and last was hold TCU and Tech when they got inside of our 5. Not everytime but a couple and for a young team that is big especially given the weight difference. you would think TCU or Tech's OLine could just push us back to get the touchdown. GO Ponies!!!!
You are correct sir ![]() And I was SO expecting an 8-4 miracle Hawaii like comeback this year ![]() I also fear this year's recruiting prospects were expecting it too. ![]()
