The Great Eddie Sefko on JJ, the BLVD, and SMU

From DMN Dallas Mavs beat writer Eddie Sefko:

On one of the last weekends before the NBA season cranks up, I had the privilege of going to the SMU-TCU game Saturday.

Things have changed a bit since i was a degenerate student in the '70s. Now I'm a degenerate alumni member in the '00s.

OK, maybe that hasn't changed much. But what has changed is the game-day atmosphere on campus. The string of tents on Bishop Blvd. is a hoot. It was so much fun, I'd hang out there even if I didn't have tickets to the game but just wanted to kill a couple of hours.

I'll predict that if June Jones gets the Mustangs in gear (and he will) to the point that they are a competitive team with a winning record, the place will absolutely go bonkers. It has a chance to be the same kind of college atmosphere you see in the Big Ten or the SEC or even, dare I say, the Big 12.

Sadly, another difference between my time on the Hilltop and this era is that the team is nothing like it used to be. Here's hoping Jones changes that.

It was an incredible sight when I went to take a leak in Dallas Hall and turned around to see the mass crowd at 5:30....the boulevard is a top 5 tailgate in the country.
