Interesting speculation from the story...

"Gross laughed off speculation that he will hire Lane Kiffin, the Raiders coach rumored to be on his way out in Oakland. The two of them worked together at USC."

Herbstreit took Gross to task on Saturday, interviewing all the old greats to come out of Syracuse. Our NFL alumni look tame compared to theirs, and they were not very forgiving of Coach Robinson. It almost was a pile-on until Corso took the mike. He openly called out Gross and ripped him publicly, saying that their problems started with his shortsighted and stubborn decision regarding hiring his buddy. Corso further laid their recruiting problems, the root of this mess, at Gross's feet, saying that he dismissed 25-35 years of recruiting experience when he ditched their previous coach. Herbstreit tried to deflect criticism, saying that at the time, it was the right decision because of a 4 year drought in recruiting and down trend in wins vs. losses, and he got the last word. Corso was clearly not backing down on his opinion.

We ought to understand this kind of thing. SMU has lived it for 21 years.

Ours are tame in regards to how they are reacting to the situation. Those Syracuse NFL alumni are so hot at Robinson if he loses this weekend he may get run out of town on a rail.

Jim Brown, Art Monk, Marvin Harrison, Keith Bullock and Donovan McNabb. All great.

Eric Dickerson, Doak Walker, Kyle Rote, Don Meredith, Craig James, Raymond Berry, The Great Justin Rogers ( :D ), Jerry Ball, Michael Carter, Russell Carter, Rod Smith, etc. Equally great.

I'm biased, but I'd say ours is better, since so many Syracuse products fail to live up to their hype.

Might want to include Heisman trophy winner Ernie Davis on that list....DKR certainly would.
