Listen. I know that we are not media darlings, but why on God's green earth can the local newspaper not at least throw a shape at showing us some love. I read that paper BECAUSE I live in Dallas, and therefore feel some affinity to the local rag. However, I may start reading the Star Telegram. For Chuck Carlton to pick Tulsa to win 49-13, shattering the already generous spread, is Grade A Spraints (otter poop). I'm not saying pick us to win, I'm saying don't go out of your way to ridicule us.

At least with our coaching staff the kids know someone believes in them. Between the negativity on here and in the local press it is amazing these kids haven't quit yet, and that is to their credit.

Be proud, play hard. Beat Tulsa!

He picked it a lot closer than some of us here at the gathering spot of SMU's biggest, and only, 'homers.'

I know, but we are obviously mentally deranged after years of losing. What's his excuse?

Every single reporter picked Tulsa to Win AND COVER except for Bobbi. Maybe they actually believe it.

I don't want to know what these numpties "believe." I want them to support the home team whose fans buy their bloody newspaper. These are score predictions, they are guesses. It would hurt nothing to let the kids know that some people don't believe they will be sliced, diced, and wrapped in rice.

What do you tell the kids? "They're better than you?" No! You tell them to get out there and give it 100%. The last thing you need is some pencil-pushing bell-end saying that you can give it 100% but you can't win. Of course we can win. I just expect the local paper to remember that fact.

I liked his pot shot at us in the comments:

"The Golden Hurricane hasn't won in Dallas since 1991. And Tulsa is just one of 15 unbeaten Bowl Subdivision teams. The second stat probably has a bit more relevance."

Thats comedy gold.

Good ole Bobbi, she is a true homer, last week she was the only one to pick us to beat UCF and this week only one picking us to cover. Keep the faith!

Double Bogey, that is the most ridiculous post ever. The morning news is not behlolden to SMU for anything, and if you think SMU fans make up the majority of the people who "buy their bloody newspaper" then you are a fool. There's a reason the Big 12 gets the majority of the coverage in Dallas.

Amen to that,

If they based what they covered on local interest, SMU would get zero coverage, I am thankful for how many stories they do on SMU sports and I really believe they do it more as a sense of duty to the local university than to sell newspapers.

No complaints from me and I appreciate the stories they write, even if I am one of the few reading it.

Bobbi is great, she understands what its about and she shows us plenty of love. It's the rest of those muppets that bother me.

I am not saying that the DMN is beholden to anyone, I am merely, and apparently ridiculously, saying that a local paper should support the local team. I think the DMNs collective collapse to their knees to the Big 12 is pathetic. You write for a Dallas paper. There is no Big 12 team in Dallas. Deal with it. Go live in Manhattan, KS, oh wait.....cue Coach Rhinebold....

I realize that I will always be on the losing side of these kinds of arguments, but I think that the College Sports Section of the DMN should be dominated by SMU, because we are the Dallas school. Put UT on the back page, it's not like they aren't getting the press elsewhere, and the Texas Exes here in Dallas are perfectly capable of turning a page or two.

And I will happily be accused of being a sunshiner, or too warm and fuzzy, or just being ridiculous. Whatever (and yes I am doing the hand sign too)! All I want to see from SMU is the kids who are on the field giving 100%, graduating, making something of themselves, and the school working on getting the best kids they can here.

I am proud of our kids, and it is that pride which makes me root for them and believe that they can win. I've seen upsets in sports that defy everything. Those upsets don't come by accident, they come from belief that they are possible.

There are probably 10 times more UT grads in Dallas than SMU grads. You deal with it.

Jeez man, this is not rocket science, it's supply and demand.

Stallion you are a reporter - reporters regurgitate. I think you are talking about analysts.

I am not suggesting they don't cover UT, I'm just suggesting they put SMU first, because I feel that is the responsibility of the local paper.

And don't get me started with supply and demand vis a vis the media...that just brings everyone down to the lowest common denominator.
