Our defense is not very good and we ought not be punting the ball back to an offense that is ripping us to shreds inside of 40 yards from the endzone.
Graham realized this and understood that 20 yards of field position is not worth giving up a down...take a shot....
Painful game, but at least we were competitive....
Maybe next week.

D is getting better, though... but I agree.

Out of all that happened, the dropped TD pass, the dropped interception...that call bugged me the most because you knew what would happen....they would rip those 20 yards off we got by punting in one of the next 3 plays and probably march right down and score and we are left to wonder what if we had went for it....fail...no harm...they still are 60 plus yards from the endzone....make it and maybe we can notch another score for ourselves..

I agree with your logic... but...
For me, it was really that I just felt the force of all of these years of SMU suckage just flowing over my head. I didn't put that much thought into it... it was just dread/knowledge that the same ol' same ol' was likely about to happen. But I know you were in the same boat.

You nailed it. When you are one of the worst teams in Div. 1 playing an undefeated team sometimes you night to roll the dice in order to win.

Maybe the SMU coaching staff need to be shown the dice so they will figure out they need to roll them. Really, that's just how it feels to me.... where are the dice? Oh, we don't have any.

My sources say no.

Obviously in hindsight, Graham made the right call and Jones probably didn't. My two problems with Jones' decision were; 1. This was not a defensive showdown and we needed points, not field position. I think TU gained almost all of the punt yardage back within 1 or 2 plays, and 2. Why did he go for it on 4th down in the first quarter from almost the same position on the field?
Obviously in hindsight, Graham made the right call and Jones probably didn't.
...............If we had converted the 4th down and gone on to score, we would have been up by 14 at that time. Instead Tulsa went on to score anyway. so obviously a poor decision.

Thad the dice have been rolled with the 10mil, BLM and the new marketing plan. So far we have crapped out, but sevens and elevens are coming in about 3-5 years. It will take that long to get good solid big men ready to play. Despite the fact that recruiting in the DFW has been shot.
