I was telling Mustangbill67 that they were going to quick kick when I saw the formation. I was very surprised when they did not and then fell back into the reality that we can not stop a 3rd or 4th down with more than 15 yards to go.

I thought quickkick as well - problem is that with our luck even if they had I bet they would have somehow come away with the 1st down or a TD.

Once that happened, I was pretty sure we were done for...it sucks being right sometimes.

I did not doubt them going for it as they came to the line, but if you looked at the set up when they came to the line it was similar to the way they line up for an extra point. It was not a standard offense play line up. I actually relaxed when I saw it and made my remark to Mustang Bill. Sad to say that our defense might have seen the same thing.

They started in a normal formation, then moved to a pooch punt formation. Our defense stayed in position for a normal play...which is the problem. With 4th and 21 from the 33, why did we not have two safeties standing on the 10? If they throw it, you have two guys deep to stop them. If they kick, you have two guys to field it.

Jones mentioned in his interview that it just happened that we had a true freshman on the field for the play. He played tight which is what you do not do in a 4th and 21. Jones just kind of sighed and said the kid learned something.

Of course you didn't. They warped their line into the horseshoe-shaped "protect" look employed on punts, but you saw right through it? You should be coaching, too.

We actually did have someone on their receiver by the time he got to the endzone, but it wound up being a jump ball and their receiver won the jump.
