SMU: Doomed to Succeed

Great quote by SMU alum Bill Wilson at the end of this article in today's DMN.

The scene at Gerald J. Ford Stadium last weekend, though, was a sore spot. Just 15,324 were on hand, a sharp drop from the 30,923 against TCU on Sept. 20.

That turnout disheartened SMU fan Bill Wilson, 77, who's been married to his wife Martha for 44 years and to the Mustangs for 48.

"People who are upset about our record don't understand how young we are, how complicated his system is and how outmanned we are," Wilson said. "St. Peter couldn't come in here and win overnight.

"After 20 years of losing, we can be a little more patient. We're doomed to succeed."

Great line — and accurate. Mr. Wilson sounds like a patient man, and I have a strong feeling the reward for his patience is arriving sooner rather than later.

15k in the stands a sore spot? Bobbi is obviously new to the program. We're used to it.
