Might remember T Boone Pickens donated some $165 million to OSU a few years back......

Just saw on CNBC an interview with Pickens where he talked about the status of the donation given the recent market. Bottom line, sounds like the donation was part of his BP fund and over the last couple of years he grew it to some $300 million. After the recent stock and oil price drop, he believed the invested donation is slightly above the original $165 million.

This is not to wish bad on Pickens or OSU. Just something to think about as SMU will similarly be impacted.

Maybe Turner can get him to gift $100 million in honor of his daughter who attended SMU? :P

Pickens bleeds orange. He wont be showering SMU with any money. SMU primarily needs to win in football and attract a more academically oriented student body. They have all the new buildings they need at this point.

I heard once that Boone and Ray Hunt were far from "friendly". Not that I take TBOONE's side on much of anything but...

I will say one thing though: GUNDY is his own man. Hardly TBOONE's puppet. He has a tremendous amount of confidence in his coordinators and has matured quite a bit in four seasons. He may not have been ready when Miles left but he is now. I think it could be said that OSU is overachieving with the talent they have up there. I wish them well. GO POKES!!!!

SMU will not be impacted like that gift. BP capital is just about out of business, likely down 80+% over the last 3 months and facing HUGE remdemptions. Sorry Boone, going long E&P was bound to blow up.
