At the end of my rope!!!

I have to admit I am at the end of my rope. Since arriving on the Hilltop in 1990, I have seen some pathetic football, and honestly probably less than 15 victories in person. I had moved away from Dallas for two years and upon returning, I rededicated myself as an SMU fan. I bought season tickets since '03 and have made nearly every home game and quite a few away games. I was excited about Bennett and ultimately disappointed. I watched us lose games in new and unique ways. I always had hope that we would get better. It really wasnt possible that we would always be this bad. When June was hired, yet again, I thought this was our chance to turn it around. Don't get me wrong, I still think and HOPE it happens, but after the game..walking to the car, I almost threw up. How many games in the last several years have we fought to the end, only to lose. I actually had the thought, that I should just say screw it, there is no return to be gained by being on the "ground floor" of this turn around...you should just wait until we actually win 7 games in a season. I am not sure how much more of this I can stand!!!

But it's their fault. We didn't drop that pass on 3rd down(Wilkerson).

We didn't kick the ball out of bounds, giving Houston a short field which led to a TD.

We didn't rough the passer on a failed UH 3rd down which led to a UH TD a few plays later.

SMU is not snake bitten. The TEAM just needs to learn how to finish and eliminate the mistakes at key points in the game. We need more players obviously.

The games will be extremely fun to watch within the next 2 years.

Actually, the games are pretty much fun to watch now...except for the last few minutes. These guys know how to break one's heart, but I can't hold it against them too much since they are breaking their own hearts in the process. They are making progress, but the stupid penalties, at least tonight, are eating their lunch.

I lost a marathon, and about 30 - 40 10K races in a row.

But I did finish them all.

While there are tons of people who can't even fill at an application to the University of Texas, they still cheer for that team like they graduated at the top of class. I got into an argument with a guy the other night. He was talking to crap about how I cheer for SMU, and Texas is superior to them in all aspects.

I let him know that Richland College didn't have a football team, and when they got one, he would have a team to cheer for. Oh, and when he makes it to a Division I college, he could cheer for that team as well.

Did I make an [deleted] out of myself? Maybe, but I made my point.

We are fans for a reason. We gave money to this school. We graduated from this school. Even though the product on the field isn't what it used to be, or what we want it to be, the fact of the matter is that we are still SMU Mustangs.

I hate to see someone who supports this team want to walk away. There aren't that many of us that continuously show up for games, go to away games, and still support this team no matter what.

Agreed, I was heartbroken tonight. If you saw me, you actually might have seen a grown man weep. I was devastated. I was devastated last week. I was devastated against Central Florida and Tulane as well.

But the fact of the matter is that we have a first year coach with players from a losing regime. There is a true freshman QB. The defense has holes in it. The team is undersized (even compared to Houston). The team isn't as fast; we can't some of the athletes that our coaches would like.

However, we are still Mustangs. All of us. Suck it up. We the fans have put up with this for a long time. Things can only get better.

I'll be there when the team turns it around. I'll be there when the team is bowl eligible, and actually makes it. I'll be there when SMU cracks the top 25, not the bottom.

The question is, will you?

I let him know that Richland College didn't have a football team, and when they got one, he would have a team to cheer for.

The Thunderducks would be a force to be reckoned with at the JC level! If they ever put a team together SMU could get some JUCO transfers from right up the road!

I will admit to being a little numb as I turned off the broadcast last night - yes, we managed to find yet another way to lose a game that most probably thought we had won.

I don't know if someone over there in Hawaii put some kind of voodoo curse on this team or what, but they are beginning to show signs of being as remarkable as last year's team (in terms of finding new ways to lose)

However, I woke up this morning to an absolutely beautiful day here in Charleston and now I am actually finding this amusing. We are absolutely incredible and have been for years.

SMU is special...and those of us who have stuck with this program through all this ugly must be pretty special as well. There aren't many of us left, but we must be among the most hard core fans any college/university has pulling for them

Just makes me more excited than I already was about going to Annapolis. Go Ponies...and long live the 1500!!!

Everyone on this site is special...and we get to witness/experience some of the most special moments in college football. This program is absolutely incredible. Whoda thunked they could find a way to lose that game last night?

We may suk, but we do it with style. There isn't another program in the country that can tell the stories SMU can over the last 20 years. And we remain the only Division I program to have ever rec'd the death penalty.

We are very special, indeed.

Me too. Unfortunately, for the second week in a row (this season anyway), I overheard some folks saying just that on my way out of the stadium. They're usually the same demographic...mid forties through late fifties, with their wives, carrying seat cushions and the type that prepares for and makes plans to travel to and from the game. These are the folks we can't afford to lose, and it's especially painful to hear "well...they always find a way to lose. I don't think we'll make the next one."

Attendance was 18k with at least 5k UH fans and a thousand FCA kids. That leaves 12-13k for us. Can't wait to see how many are around for USM.
