Where in the HELL are all the pathetic students???

Postby smuhype » Sun Oct 19, 2008 10:14 am

Same drill as last week only now the kids are back from fall break.

SMU gives us a strong effort two weeks in a row.

Can anyone defend these people for me?

trying to 'creativly acquire' tickets from athletic websites to fill the other 25K empty seats at Ford...

OK, I'll let it go...they are probably looking to invest their collective time elsewhere, as many alumnido, and most of Dallas does.

winning breeds relevance.

Not to attack you, but I am so sick of this complaint. Obviously, none of the current students came to SMU because they wanted to go to SMU football games. I bet 95% of them had never been to an SMU game before starting college. That is what a death penalty and 20 years of dreadful football get you. Most of these students don’t owe the program any support like they would at UT, Tech or TCU – where these schools gave kids growing up something to be a fan of….winning, bowl games…… SMU has had one winning season (with no bowl game) in their lifetime, while playing in an inferior conference. So why should they come out and watch us lose, again?

I had never attended an SMU game prior to my freshman year on campus. But I went to every game. And we lost a lot. Growing up in FW, I attended TCU games in middle and high school because it was a social event. TCU was terrible too then. Even though I went to the games, I wasn't a fan. You don't have to grow up following a team to support them when you go to school there. You owe the team support simply because they are your chosen team.

My daughter was there last night to the unfortunate end and she grew up on USC Football.

This is her text message to me after the game..

"I stayed for the game and we lost in the last 24 seconds. It was painful.

"We were like only SMU could win the entire game only to lose in the last 24 seconds."

Of course USC didn't Beat Notre Dame until she was 6 and UCLA when she was 10, so she understands you may lose at first but never give up!

Of course SMU may be a Pony of another color!

BTW I was so angry I took down my SMU Flag this morning hanging over my deck and replaced it with the USC Flag.

Not going back up until SMU wins one again!

same thing could be asked about the alumni. Too bad - these games have been very exciting games. SMU has played about as well as they can in both games.

How about all the alumni leaving the game early when it was obvious to anyone with any football knowledge that UH's offense could pretty much do anything it wanted.

No you don't have to grow up a fan to be one when you get here, but it is unrealistic to expect freshmen to show and support a program with no history in their lifetime and one that loses every week.

You may have done that, and that is what makes you a good SMU fan....but by a long shot you're the exception. Personally, I don't blame the students for not showing up....and as Stallion mentioned, the 50,000 or so alums in the area who don't show up deserve just as much of the blame.

Why does this keep coming up?

Very, very few people who really want to attend college football games go to SMU.

So you have students who are just fine watching UT play on TV, or don't care about football at all, and you want them to come out every week, to watch a team who has ALWAYS been a loser as far as they are concerned, and play teams they have never heard of in the context of college football.

To the average student, we are a DII team, and a crappy one at that. Few people can choose to endure the constant beating of SMU football. We are the ones who have some sort of masochistic mental problem.

go to hell smuhype. you are a complete idiot. maybe you are related to bigdaddy23052350235?

check out http://www.aggiecoach.com

scroll down and look at the part where they complain that their student section is only 1/3 full towards the end of the game. WAIT - i thought it was only those terrible SMU students who didn't stay to the bitter end with the bad team?!

seriously - please don't ever post here again. thanks in advance.

I will say this. I always moan about the students that leave at half time, but actually a lot of them just move over to my section for better seats. I guess I could complain just as much about the no shows on my side of the field.

SMU students and alums suck. All the more reason to market to the sidewalk alums, like me, and the guys from Special D!
