There is one thing right now keeping us from winning games..

Yes, we gave the game away last night with some stupid penalties.

But the coaches aren't the problem, the defensive coaches aren't the problem.

The one thing keeping us from winning these games right now is the d-line. The other QB just has forever to throw the ball unless we blitx multiple players. We can't get a solid rush with our base four. It is absolutely killing us.

In the fourth quarter, Houston was gaining tons of yardage by receivers running their typical pattern, then stopping 20 yards down the field and breaking back for the ball. These aren't little 8 yard timing based button hooks. This is 20 yards down the field, coming back to 10 yards. That is impossible for a DB to cover unless he has a monumental athletic advantage over the receiver. The QB has a good 6 seconds before he has to get rid of the ball.

Hopefully, we will see massive improvement as these kids grow up going into next season. Because they are the key to the team taking a step forward.

that's why we won 5 or 6 games a couple years ago. we had bonds, haywood, rogers, and muse who had a legitimate chance at getting a sack every snap. they definitely masked our deficiencies in the secondary, which is now being heavily exposed

We are paying the price for 5 years of almost totally ineffective recruiting which was the fault of everyone, including the administration and the coaches. In Division I, there are enough good players to go around so that just about anyone can put together a reasonably well functioning offense. But when teams lack depth, and heaven knows we do, that lack of depth usually shows up on defense. Right now, we cannot compete game in and game out on the Division I level with our guys. They are good, hard working kids, but most of them shouldn't be starting in Division I. Having said that, Bo Levi has matured and might be a great one. Reminds me of Mike Ford. If he can just keep healthy and keep his head on straight, I think we are on to something special. Kudos to June Jones for sticking with him. Now lets get out there and recruit some beasts for defense.

I thought it was the fact that the other team scores more points than us after 60 minutes.

It was good to see Evan H. get some PT last game. On some plays he did well and on others his inexperience showed. It takes time to adjust to bigger, faster pace of the college game.
With two JUCO DT's on the way ( I think that is true ) we will have at least more depth next year.
