good article...like the headings say, who else would they pick unless there's some massive alignment.

incidentally, 'sentinel' seems to be one of the few papers with some kind of credibility in their analyses of this alignment bs anyway...

Big East will be nice fit for Cincinnati, Louisville

By Alan Schmadtke | Sentinel Staff Writer

Two men, two sets of swaying emotions.

Is Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese happy because his football presidents obviously made the right two choices? Or is he concerned because some once-solid members of the Big East aren't very solid anymore?

Then there's Conference USA chief Britton Banowsky, who can't like the fact that he's almost certainly going to lose two of his best teams, Cincinnati and Louisville, to the Big East in 2005. On the other hand, both still are with him in 2003, and both are cleaning up against BCS competition.

On Saturday, Cincinnati, despite losing five fumbles, beat West Virginia for the first time in 13 tries. Louisville, with a beating of Kentucky already in its back pocket, cleaned up Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.

No long-term projections here, but at least for now it appears the Bearcats and Cardinals are nicely-fitting Midwest pieces to a Big East puzzle with two soon-to-be-open spots (Miami, Virginia Tech).

(OK, OK, nothing's been announced, but trust us, it's done.)

Cincy was more than physical enough against the Mountaineers. Louisville, meanwhile, has made a seemingly seamless transition from John L. Smith to new Coach Bob Petrino.

It looks as if both schools will make the move to the Big East with little difficulty.

So how long until this is official and until the dominoes start tumbling?
