Smu/Navy Road Trip

We had a great time on the Smu/Navy away game trip.
Special thanks to the Mustang Club for all the time and
effort that went into planning the various events.
The guided walking tour of the Naval Academy was
one of the highlights. Wow, the US Naval Academy/Annapolis
what special places to visit.

Like someone said earlier you almost had to be there to fully
realize how bad the weather was during the game. You could
see sheets of rain one after another blowing by. What was
strange, was really the only bad weather of the entire three
days Fri/Sat/Sun were the 3-5 hours around the game.

The Midshipmen are required to attend the football games
and are required to stay (even in a monsoon) until the end.
I wonder if that would work at Smu?

It was really a nice touch when all the Midshipmen had marched
on the field right before kickoff when they all turned around,
faced the visitors section and in one loud booming voice said
"GO SMU" and then tipped their white hats in a gesture
of sportsmanship.

Also great to run into Smu fans from the North East,
one in particular from Connecticut that has been
a lifelong Mustang fan, said he became a Mustang Club
member when June Jones was hired, faithfully reads PonyFans
but has not yet joined PonyFans. Join up! It was great to meet you.

Next time we must return with an SMU victory!

Thought some might enjoy some pictures & short videos from
the Smu/Navy road trip.

Thanks Special D, it looked like a great trip, except for the

flood and the loss, hopefully we will have great weather

for the Memphis game .

I was up in Philly, Baltimore and Annapolis all week and had beautiful weather. Started to cloud up Friday but the bottom dropped out just in time for the tailgate party and game. Absolutely incredible how that black cloud seems to be following these Mustangs around.

Still a great time. Start planning now for the return trip in 2010 !

Mustang Club staff did a great job in making sure we all had a great trip. Despite the game, it was a good time. And I agree, there is no way to adequately describe how awful the weather was during the game.

I was there as well this week-end, and was impressed with the Naval Academy, but also reminded because of some of the similarities with SMU (relatively small student body, similar size and layout of campus, emphasis on academics and access to a great education, chance to participate in multiple intramural sports, even similar size and appearance of the football stadiums) how lucky I was to go to school where I did. Now if we could just get that football tradition back on track....

Nice to meet you at the tailgate, Charleston Pony...despite the weather, a good time was had by all...look forward to 2010, when the Ponies head back to Annapolis.
