Maybe Brown will pull a Jo Pa and drive Muschamp nuts.
The more I think about it I do not think I would want my DC in waiting behind me. A few choice miscalls on defense at the right time and Brown would be run out of town and Muschamp gets to take over. Kind of like telling Brutus he is next in line to Caesar.

Will Muschamp is no doubt a great coach, but as a longtime Longhorn fan I personally wanted Applewhite to take over the program when Brown retires

If I'm a Horn's fan, I want Mack to stay as long as he wants. The guy just wins and he's one of the best, if not the best recruiter in the country.

I agree with that too, but in looking to the future applewhite has ties to the school and the state and would be a great recruiter for texas. Also it makes one wonder since muschamp has been named browns successor how long till applewhite bolts for some other head coaching job?

Muschamp for the forseeable future is the much more solid choices. He's done a great job this year, the previous year, the year before that etc-at LSU, Auburn and at UT they have all excelled under him. UT was porous last year on defense. UT probably had no choice if they wanted to keep Muschamp because its a 100% probability that he was gone to some other school if they didn't. He extremely popular and relates well with those crazy kids of today.

What is said and what is done are two different things. Let it play out first before this really happens.

I think another thing is that this puts a slightly cooler fresher face on Texas Football than just Mack Brown. Despite what all you UT haters say-Mack Brown has done an absolutely fabulous job at UT (heck I'd be shocked if anyone has a better record over the last 8 or so years and I know he is the winingest Coach in UT History in a tougher conference than predecessors) but he might be wearing a little thin-Muschamp adds what Brown doesn't have a fiery, young charasmatic Coach.

Great move by UT-what he has done for their defense in one year is amazing.

its just one of those ploys schools are now using to show incoming recruits that they will have a good and strong coaching staff for years to come

ploy? more like fact...with Muschamp there for good it seems and Major in the wings for O-Coordinator before he gets a HC job then they might just hae the best coaching staff in the country for years to come.
