Decision to start BLM...

With one game left (and bearing in mind the current prevailing negative attitude towards the June Jones era thus far), I'm curious about what people's thoughts are on JJ's decision to go with Bo Levi this year.

While it appears that going with BLM has had an adverse affect on the Win-Loss column (surely J Willis could have produced a few more victories like he did in 2006), I keep thinking about what Jones has said about his system ... that it simply takes a lot of time to "get it" (he said something along those lines about Timmy Chang).

With that in mind, it seems that the most pressing question right now is, despite the fact that BLM fits JJ's "model" more than Willis and hopefully continues to improve next year, will SMU's lack of success this season offset detrimentally whatever gains BLM has made in experience, in terms of having a negative affect on recruiting and fan support, which was strong at first but has now dwindled?

Really? You want to rehash this argument for the 5,000th time?

Just go read everyone's opinions that are on almost every thread on the board.

Our problem, for the most part, has not been learning JJ's offense this year and the QB argument. The problem has been that we can't stop anybody. Looking at our DL and secondary problems going into next year....its going to take one unbelievable defensive coaching job to turn our season around next year.

OB issues pale in comparison to our defensive woes. If Mitchell does as well next year as he did this year and the defense improves, then we win a few more games. The defense was the main reason we lost so many games (or lack of defense).

This is about reps and understanding and whatnot. Give Mitchell as many live snaps as possible. There is no substitute for this kind experience. Besides, it's the last game of the year. Why not start him especially if you've committed to him all year.

This argument is nonsense.

As for the support -- like anything, when people start noticing that you're winning, they'll come. It's that simple.

That's an interesting point. Going 1-11 again, if it happens, would certainly be a huge downer after all the hoopla this summer. There'll be little momentum in the spring.
