why must you treat us so cruel? Do we really deserve this? You tease us year after year...sport after sport - The Commitment....a shiny new on-campus stadium......a beautiful new b-ball practice facility.....an AD who supposedly gets it....RoboDoh.....June Cometh.....relaxed admissions - yet nothing has changed - in fact we are now worse than ever before. I long for the days of Cavan's teams or Dement's teams...at least they were competitive.

Some of us are not as wise as jt, and we foolishly expect better from our school. Like I did against Rice in the 1st football game of the year, or like I did tonight in hoops against TCU - and don't get me started on TCU...what did they do to deserve so much success? They pity us now...few barely even care to come over to our board and talk trash anymore.

So Sports Gods, please do us a favor - either show us some sort of real reason for optimism or put us out of our misery....I don’t want or care anymore about catchy slogans, or coaches blogs, or smoke and mirrors (The Commitment) or how good we will be next year….just please give us a winning team on the court or the field now, while I’m still around.

from my investment of time and money, but for some reason

I always return for more punishment.

Every time I feel that way about our beloved Ponies, I always come back to that Beach Boys song "Be true to your school..."

It's not easy to be a Ponies fan a lot of the time. It was great being a student there and I would never give back the times I had going to the games, at Ownby, The Cotton Bowl, Ford and Moody Coliseum. I'm thankful for being able to see guys like James Gatewood bring down the house when Moody was rockin'. I'm thankful for guys like Mike Wilson helping lead us into the tournament when I was still in high school. And for 'Do Bratton hitting miracle buzzer beaters when I was in the "packed" student section right behind coach Dement. I'm thankful for watching Dan Freiburger and Rongea Hill lead us to our best season since the death penalty back in 1992. I was 14 and still remember Freiburger giving me a high five coming off the field. We were 5-6 and Tom Rossley got SWC co-coach of the year!

Most of all, I'm thankful for the time I spent with all my friends at all those games. Never leaving early no matter what the score. And I'm thankful for all the time I spent at all those games with my mom, dad and brother before I went to SMU. To me, being a fan is like being married; you're with your team through thick and thin; through the good and bad times and hopefully the good ones to come. Some times I regret not going to a big time sports school but I'll never truly regret going to SMU. I am one of the few, the proud, THE PONY FANS!!!!!
Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!

Current freshmen were 2 years old in 1992. Think about that.
