so, whats the Plan?

Postby Hoop Fan » Sat Nov 29, 2008 6:28 pm

will SMU sign the 7-10 JUCOs it needs to get competitive? I don't see how we can be competitive before 2011 unless Jones brings in a minimum of 7 quality JUCOs this recruiting season. And another 5-7 next year. We are all kidding ourselves if we think that just a year in the weight room is going to make SMU competitive. And it was proven far and away this year that Jones system is not gonna win any games by itself. And regardless of who was around him today, BLM made about 10 really bad throws. That position should be up for grabs, which is really what makes this season such a disappointment.

So, what will you do SMU?

Lots of FR took their lumps this year and we can expect to see guys either improve to keep their playing time or they will be recruited over. I believe we will see some improvement next year but this program is years away from being competitive. I think we can expect to see plenty of FR playing the next 2-3 years. We just might be the WORST team playing at the FBS level right now.

only SMU can use the "young and inexperienced" excuse being that Alabama has started/played the most freshmen in the country and we see where they are in the rankings

We aren't Alabama.

we aren't Alabama but the concept is all relative...SMU will have "impact" FR in the future who will allow us to compete successfully in CUSA.

I'll give you one guess which team had the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the Country according to Rivals.

Well that quote didn't compare smu to alabama or say were alabama. Its just more excuses in a long line of them dating back to the dp.

It doesn't matter who u play, sooner or later we just need to stop making excuses and jusrt admit we flat out suck

SMU should look at Southern Miss and take heart in the fact that it simply does not take much to win in C-USA. Southern Miss is not a very good team. By conference standards, they are average, by national standards, they are below-average and possibly bad. Heck, they lost 5 games in a row at one point.

With that in mind, here's a formula for C-USA success: (1) one or two playmakers, (2) mediocre (even slightly below-average) Division 1 talent, (3) a head coach at least smart enough to take advantage of the weaknesses that exist on EVERY team in the conference, and (4) a teaspoon of luck.

Right now, SMU has #(3) and possibly #(1) (Sanders & Robinson). #(2) isn't all that far off (this year's recruiting class looks decent, throw in a few JUCOS). #(4) well, who knows, but our bad luck can't go on forever. The point is: if Southern Miss can do it, SMU can.
