Big Twelve Big Schmelve

DeLoss Dodds and Texas helped invent the BCS and the Big 12 in an effort to shut out "minor" conferences such as CUSA and the Mountain West from the big TV money. The entire thing is a farce that is designed to hamper competition among all but the biggest money programs so that they can perpetuate enormous payrolls for their coaching staffs and athletic administratitions.

What is best for college football, the players, the alums and the fans is not even on their radar. Until a playoff system based on merit is put in place, there will always be these stupid debates about who belongs in the BCS bowls and the BCS "championship" game. I hate to sound like a liberal, but pressure should be put on legislatures and congress to do something about this. After all, the BCS is made up primarily of big taxpayer supported state schools. Someone should knock these big school ADs down a notch and make them responsible for doing what is best for creating a sport that is inclusive and that is played on the field not in some computer geek's lab.

Amen.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
