Status of some players

Postby Mickey » Tue Dec 02, 2008 7:21 am

1. Rock Dennis- He didn't suit up at all in 07. Why is he considered a SR after playing only one year?

2. Bryan McCann- He didn't play in the 2nd half, injured? Replaced by Tim Crosby.

3. Mitch Enright- Didn't play much all year because of a broken hand. He played in the 2nd half vs Memphis because McJunkin was having trouble with his snaps. Did playing in the Memphis game burn his redshirt? Is McJunkin now the #1 center going into the spring?

4. Evan H.- Did JJ burn his redshirt?

1. Apparently they had other plans for Rock's scholarship.

2. I did not think McCann played at all and asked this same question on Sunday.

3. Enright played against Memphis, ending any possibility of a medical hardship.

4. Evan played so a redshirt is not possible for this year.

I do not see how he can after playing in the Memphis game. He was good to go prior to that but playing after the first half of the season negates the possiblity from what I have read.

Wasn't there another player we are trying to get a medical hardship for?

Rock Dennis, but the staff said his was turned down. Seems strange since he met every criteria. More likely they wanted his scholarship. He still had another year of eligibilty even without the medical hardship from what I could determine.

I just remembered. Aren't we trying to do this for WR Cole Loftin who broke his collar bone against TCU?

I think you are correct.

I am not sure of the end of the process. I do not know if the hardship is applied for now or if they wait until the end of the player's eligibilty without the hardship and apply then.

I don't think you can actually seek a hardship medical redshirt until the semester prior to your 5th year. But it must be supported by medical evidence from the injury year.

Will JJ recruit players that can replace any of these players in question? The quickest way to win is to recruit players that can win. Are any of these guys mentioned of such quality that they can't be quickly replaced by a better athlete/player? I wonder as it may affect how aggressive the program is in redshirting certain players.

In a partial answer to your question, at least from Jones' perspective, he remarked after the USM game that out of the 25 committments, he felt we could lose 2 or 3 but that he had others lined up to step in. It seems he understands the recruiting business and is building the team with his players and that makes most everyone else expendable. I think he has embraced Sanders and Robinson but do not get the impression that anyone else outside of his recruits is on his A list.

Now, we're up to 25 commitments? Seems like the recruiting sites are behind.

I do believe that was the number he gave.

Riley Dodge got a medical hardship this year and he is only a freshmen. You do not have to be in a certain semester. But I do not think you can get one after the 3rd game of any season.

Think he was counting greyshirts in the number of 25.
