Good for him and the team. Seems like he has the right attitude. I was impressed with him during the year as he encouraged BLM and other players on the sideline. He could have been bitter about the situation but decided to take a better approach.
/No Hate. Just Facts. Occasional sarcasm.
JW is doing a nice job of maturing...more power to him.
"You can either get better or worse in a situation," Willis said, "and I think we both got better from it." SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
There aren't many college kids who would have handled this year as well as Willis has. He set school records and received all-conference honors in his first two seasons....then gets benched and watches a freshman play poorly all season...and still wants to be a Pony??
I don't know Willis personally at all and I know he made mistakes, but he must love SMU to stick around.
Helluva player...turns out that he might very well be a helluva guy...not that it matters what I think...I just think it's cool that he's sticking with it.
"Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
I would disagree that BLM played poorly. Yes, the interception numbers were very high. But it's clear this kid has a ton of talent. It's not as though this was a simple offense for a teenager. Kudos to Willis for his maturity and attitude. Here's hoping he gets his fair share of touches next year.
I think JW's attitude is to be applauded and the coaches had to help with this maturing process. I would never have believed it after watching him in the last game of his second year! Good job!
This is not meant to be a plug because I do not do product endorsements, but if anyone is interested in hearing Willis say this out of his own mouth and hear the upbeat tone of his voice when he did so, and/or if anyone is interested in hearing the statement made by BLM in regard to some players not caring and the way he said it, the words were spoken during the post game interview that is recorded on the ponystampede.com site. It was a post game interview with Willis, Mitchell and Henderson. You can also hear Henderson say he missed the announcement of breaking the NCAA record because he "had to take a leak" and was off the field.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Justin Willis has learned and matured during his time at SMU. He is still a valuable asset to the Mustangs and I look forward to seeing him on the field again wearing the red and blue next season! Thanks for your hard work, dedication and commitment to SMU, Justin! You are truly a Mustang!
