OT: Avery suspension

Postby LA_Mustang » Wed Dec 03, 2008 10:15 pm

I know everyone loves hockey around here, but I think this suspension is as interesting as the Plaxico one.......

Let me say that I think Sean Avery is a lot of things (a jerk, interesting, classless, funny) but does anyone else find it very strange that the NHL, or any other professional sports league, would suspend a guy for what he said?? He called his ex "sloppy seconds"....yeah, it was not classy but come on, was it that bad? Hockey is a sport that promotes fighting and its guy's guy image. For a sport desperate for villains and heroes, it is strange that they took such a hard stance on this incident. How many people would have loved to see Avery play last night and drop the gloves with Cuthbert's new boyfriend....now that would have been entertaining.

They could have suspended him for maybe a game and/or fined him, but the indefinite suspension is a bit over the top. He's really only guilty of being an idiot.

Not sure that I find the Plaxico suspension interesting. Now, THAT guy deserved to be suspended for a very long time because this wsa not the first idiotic thing he has done this year. The guy thought that he was a made man with all the money from his new contract, and I hope he loses the better part of it. What a moron.

i am a huge hockey fan and have seen avery play in live games before. he's not a big time scorer but he definitely does mix it up on the ice. he talks trash to the other team and gets into scraps all the time. do i care about the suspension? not really. but i did have a good laugh at what he said, although it was probably the most unprofessional comment i've ever heard out of an athlete.

It's right up there with Tyson telling someone he would "eat their family".

I'm just not sure Avery was the guy they needed to go after. I would like to be proven wrong, but the Stars current record seems to agree with my assessment. Their defense is really awful this year.

Sure, she's hot, but he reportedly has no difficulty at all rounding up companionship.

Prediction: if/when he gets reinstated, his first shift on the ice will be greeted by one of the loudest standing ovations in the history of the building/franchise.

(Not saying that's the right reaction - just that it's the likely reaction.)

Smoking hot, but after seeing the list of guys she has dated in the NHL alone I think I might need a penicillin shot just from looking at the picture.

I'm going to kill this thread by stating that I gather the carpeting matches the curtains?

Times must be bad...down to burlap sack underwear.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I suspect everything she invests in is hard.
