No, this isn't about your new secretary of state.

Looking at the kicking stats on the recruiting board made me wonder who in the NCAA this year were best long distance guys -- which I define as guys who attempted 3 or more from 50+

Here are your stats.

Made Attempted LONG
Jason Reda, Illinois 3 3 51
Kai Forbath, UCLA 5 5 54
Swayze Waters, UAB 3 4 52
Ryan Harrison, Air Force 3 4 57
Thomas Morstead, SMU 3 4 52

What do all these kickers have in common (other than kicking multiple long FG)? They all play for less than stellar teams. One wonders why the much better college teams don't attempt as many long field goals. Could it be, they get the ball closer? Maybe.

yeah but a lot of your buddies would probably have a National Championship ring if SMU had hit that 52 yarder against Arkansas and you would have walked off the field in Columbus with a victory over Ohio St. Never hurts to have a big time kicker who can bail you out at the gun.

Air Force is a pretty decent team.

Wasn't knocking the kickers (which I agree, the better a kicker is the more it helps the team). I was pointing out the possibility that a better offense eliminates the need for more frequent 50+ yard field goals.

Of course we eliminate the need for long FGs by turnovers.

You are going to get a black horseshoe and delete this thread if you continue to point out the obvious.

I never whine. I leave that up to you and your ilk.

I am doing home remodeling and can not put up the lights this year. It is my Christmas present to all ponyfans. I am throwing money everywhere I am able to spur the economy.

Graham Gano, a Groza finalist from Fla St and the likely winner IMO, was 5-7 from 50+ this year.
