McCoy moves to top of final Heisman poll

Texas quarterback Colt McCoyÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Heisman stock is peaking at the right time. He moved to the head of the pack today in the final poll of 10 Heisman Trophy voters surveyed each week by the Rocky Mountain News.

The poll has correctly predicted the Heisman winner in 18 of the previous 21 years. Then again, the 10 pollÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Heisman voters are a relatively small sample, given that more than 900 Heisman votes will be cast this year.

McCoy had been second in the poll a week ago, but he leaped OklahomaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Sam Bradford in this weekÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s poll Ã¢â‚¬â€ the final poll before ballots are due this week. The Heisman will be awarded Saturday night.

McCoy was listed atop five of the 10 ballots this week. Bradford received three first-place votes, FloridaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Tim Tebow received the other two. The overall point totals are razor-thin, with McCoy at 42 points, Bradford at 41 and Tebow at 34, setting up one of the tightest Heisman votes in a while.

A week ago, McCoy received only two first-place votes to BradfordÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s seven.
