68 Teams Bowling/51 Staying Home

Postby Stallion » Tue Dec 09, 2008 11:15 pm

72 teams were bowl eligible 47 were not

Is it really too much to see SMU in a bowl every 20 years or so?

I'd go with the 2008 SMU squad winning against:

Army
Duke
Eastern Michigan
Indiana
Kent State
Middle Tennessee
North Texas
Toledo

How does SMU fall before San Diego State & San Jose State if the list is in alphabetical order?

What a joke!!!

Half the teams go bowling & probably only 10% - 20% actually deserve it. College football is such a watered-down product now days. No wonder the bowls mean nothing with such low TV ratings. :!:
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

If the ratings were so low as to not make money, the games wouldn't be shown... but every bowl game is on TV. There's plenty of money being made, even in the lower-tier bowls.

That is the truth, I saw some article about ESPN making a ton of money televising a crappy bowl or two every day of the week.

The bowl games are a cash cow in how they have bundled them all together to sell advertising, they need quanity, not quality....I would expect more to be added.

Not sure if there is a compete clause or not, but I would like to see the City of Dallas do something with the Cotton Bowl, create a Dallas Bowl or something, would be a shame for it to not have a post season bowl when the Cotton Bowl moves.

Sure has changed from yesteryear.

It used to be a reward for a successful season.

Rarely would a team outside the top 25 end up in bowl.

I heard there are discussions. CUSA v. MWC was what I recall.

At some point, you run out of eligible teams.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

That's why our goal shouldn't just be a bowl. It's not what it used to be. Our goal should be C-USA championships. Hope JJ doesn't think his job is done here after taking a 6-6 team to the La Quinta Bowl.
